Mowing in bottom land today lots of moisture. I don't know what the plants are called, but they have long stems with a bushy top, and were taller than my tractor in places. Lots of second, and third. Even got down to first a few times. The tractor had plenty of power, it was the flail mower that got bogged down. The thick weeds are because of all the rain here in California. Has the weather slowed you up this year? Stan

Has the weather slowed you up this year?

Yes, the weather has almost stopped me from mowing.
Only mowed once. My lawn hasn't woke up.
The seeds I planted in the hot box haven't done a good job of germinating.
This is cooler than a normal spring. A few mornings are below freezing.

I have a vacant lot in town Late yesterday I put my new to me Ford 2000 to work mowing. The city police's it : ( @ 8" you get a letter in the mail.

Its rained a bunch 9 consecutive weekends in a row. I still work everyday so have not got my garden in. I coach one baseball team and help another, practice is Friday and Saturday I have only got two full blown practices in.

Yes, it is so wet here in NW SC, that my garden is getting weedy.
Need to cultivate.
Too wet to walk in the garden.
Had 3 inches of rain Wednesday.
And it has been very cool.
I planted corn and green beans sometime back and the corn is up, but the beans are not coming up.
Had a fire in the shop every evening and the gas logs are keeping the house warm.
Weather station in Greenville 40 miles away says we are about 6 1/2 inches ahead for the year.

We are in the mud too with over 3 of rain in the past 2 days. Our temps have also been very cool. Any warm season veggie seeds would rot in this weather. We have hundreds of veggie plants that need to be in the ground too. I am trying to keep them healthy, as well as not growing very much to make planting them easier. Next week is predicted to be cool also. Like Richard we have needed heat in the house. Its like juggling with one's arms and hands tied up!

My trail mowing season doesn't start until sometime in June, depending on rain, our land still has some snow in the shady areas. We sometimes have Canary grass that gets as high as my head when on the tractor, and that takes some HP to mow. When I switched from a 5 foot cutter to a 6 foot I sure started using some lower gears, good thing the JD 4600 has 12 of them!

That weed sounds like wild parsley to me or poison hemlock. It has been unusually cold this spring and only recently warmed up so everything jumped practically over night. Pasture grass has gone from 4 tall to knee high in a short time.

I am located 30 miles north of San Diego, In Encinitas. The town had a lot of farms in the past, including Dad's, Now it's mostly houses. Still
some open land that needs mowing for fire prevention. Stan

I am waiting for 2 things to happen: Cut my winter hay patch (Tall Fescue) and get the seeds (Sorghum-Sudan) for my summer hay patch to sprout. Obviously I have opposing wishes which leave me sitting on a fence. I was ready to cut the week before last but this week as is next week are forecast to be wet.......but yea for the summer crop.....
