Made some tractor U-joints

The driveshaft on my 80 year old friend's JD L are actually called couplers.
They are made out of thick belting material.
The old ones were in terrible shape.
We took some heavy belting material and made 2 new ones.
It took both of us to get everything put together, but we got it done this morning.
Hooked to a Farmall Cub and pulled it around for about 10 minutes.
The oil pressure was great and pegged the gauge.
Now he can finish assembly and crank her up.
He is very happy.

Looks like you did a good job and saved him some $$$!

(The L373T rubberized fabric discs are still available from DEERE for $283.68 each!)

Well their not doing you any favors for that amount of money, their the same as the drive on a F-10 Farmhand hyd pump drive, you can make em out out of a old 2 ply car tire or conveyor belting!!!

I made a set years ago for our LA the same way. My uncle had some belting from his gravel pit conveyors.

The 2 Volvo automobiles my late wife had, 1985 & 1988 both had universal joints like that. I built the hydraulic drive coupling for my Earthmaster tractor like that also.

Nothing so fun as getting an old critter running!!

I did not actually do the mechanical work to get our rusty Regular running... BUT I was on the trip to drag that ol' girl outta the jungle - and I helped greatly through online research and I was totally the 'Parts Procurement Queen'.

Was equally as pumped as my hubby at the first start of the engine. :) Videoed it all. :)

I'm curious as to what the original OEM parts list referred to as the name of that joint. A u-joint do you think or maybe something else?

That makes sense ..... I suspect a u-joint specifically refers to connecting shafts that are at different levels or angles to each other.

The new chargers and challengers and 300s have a similar setup on the rear drive shaft.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Durango amd grand Cherokee do as well, since they are the same chassis with a taller body.
