stupid hydualic fluid mistake.

my diesel tank cap is right next to my hyd. fluid tank cap & I got distracted & put about a quart of hyd. fluid in the diesel tank. Tank has 35 gals. in it. I figured not much difference between motor oil & hyd. fluid. I think it may smoke a very little but run ok. What say you?

In what tractor! Is it and how big is the tank? Is it newer with a fancy electronic fuel controls? If so I would drain the fuel down to about half and fill it up again then next time dump what you drained out and fill that tank to full as well, just to dilute it a little more. Just a shot from the hip anything pre
1990 will probably run through fine but just be a little more smokey. Another concern would be if it get real cold where you are and this fuel will be in there a while I am led to think this would probably increase the chances of gelling.

tank on the side I added it to is 50 gal. with about 35 gals. in it. 1999 new holland with Cummins diesel.

I think your tractor engine that has older style injection p[ump will operate just fine with that small % of hyd fluid. Back when I drove a 18 wheeler with a Cummins engine I was told to fill fuel with trans fluid when changing fuel filters. Those diesel engines ran just fine on trans/hyd oil.

I would just fill the tank with fuel to get as much dilution as possible, and run it. Not going to hurt a thing.

Ok, let's nip all the contrived panic and hand-waving in the bud...

You guys dump all sorts of weird stuff into your diesel tanks that's not supposed to go in there ALL THE TIME, ON PURPOSE: 2-stroke oil. Marvel Mystery Oil. Engine oil.

You claim it makes your engines run better on this "ULSD that lacks lubricity."

A quart of clean hydraulic oil in 35 gallons of diesel is nothing to get in a panic over. Diesel fuel is oil. It mixed right in.

You'll probably notice the tractor running better due to the added lubricity of the hydraulic oil.

I am not going to get all excited like Barnyard, but neither you nor your tractor will notice any difference.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a brain fart the other day and added three or four glug glugs of bar oil to the fuel tank on the chain saw before I realized what I was doing. I dumped it out and rinsed it out with straight gas before refilling it with mixed gas. Took about fifty pulls to get her started, and then it looked like I was running a bug fogger.

1 qt. on top of 35 gal., or 50 if you fill it up, I don't think I'd worry about it.

I thought you were going to tell us a different story. Like you dumped a couple gallons of diesel fuel into the hydraulic reservoir.

1 quart of hydraulic fluid mixed into 35 gallons of diesel shouldn't hurt. Is it hydraulic/Transmission or straight hydraulic fluid?

2X4,

Should be O.K. If it will make you feel better, top of the fuel tank.

Guido.

people that buy on road fuel for tractors made before 2007 are advised to add some kind of lubricant to that type fuel. atf or some type lubricant and same for trucks made before 2007. Diesel trucks of course.

By WHOM?

I've run a MF245 and 2 diesel pickups on 100% hydraulic fluid, also ATF and eng oil too, it'll run just fine and you shouldn't notice anything with that kind of mix ratio (140:1). Backstory on the fluids, I was given several old drums of each fluid, it was all new but old and couldn't be sold. It burned in all those vehicles just fine, multiple tank fills too.
