Does anybody know how I can fix the problem that's popped up for me on Craigs List for the past few weeks? I'm in central Michigan. When I'm on Farm and Garden and do a specific search, as in type Oliver in the search box, it brings up the ads for Central Michigan CL, but when I scroll down to where it lists ''more from nearby areas'' , it used to just go to ads from places like Northern Michigan, Grand Rapids, Lansing etc. Now almost all the ads in ''nearby areas'' are from Wisconsin. It's too far across the lake for me to care what's for sale over there.

Does anybody know how to get it back to actual ''nearby areas''? I've tried clicking ''change search area'' and putting in my zip code. That brings up ''Within 60 miles of Mt Pleasant''. That brings up more ads in Michigan, but the bulk of them are Farm and Garden but not specifically Oliver, and when I scroll down, it still gives me ads in Wisconsin?

If it's some change that CL has made to the site, I guess I'll have to live with it, but if I clicked some obscure box somewhere and didn't realize it, I'd sure like to know how to fix it.

Can't help you on your question, but they have rolled out me a new format and there have been changes made to the back side. I'm not real happy with it. Seems harder to work with.

If you click on the map in the ''change search area'' and zoom in or out, it also changes the search radius. Maybe that'll do it?

Just because the U.S.S. Badger is shut down for the winter, you can still get to Wisconsin via U.S.2 in da U.P.!

Yep, a full backslide for CL. Everybody keeps saying that the crowd has moved on to FB MP but for the most part are not seeing it. For farm equipment I think that there are fewer offerings with the prices steadily rising. Used to be my strategy was to buy based on need but now buy the best value and fix the rest within reason.

That's what I was afraid of. Their genius that set it up should have compensated for natural barriers. I guess it looks good on
map.

I hadn't, but I just did because you asked. A box popped up saying it'll install something in my computer, so no thanks.

If you're just throwing in a keyword on the main page and hitting search, there is no way to control the results. You get what you get. If they changed it, they changed it. Nothing you can do.

Once you're on the search results page you can tweak the search and re-run it to be more in tune with your specific search needs.

Try "include nearby areas." That will allow you to pick which specific craigslist sites to search. You can omit the ones on the wrong side of the lake. It remembers your selections, but you do have to check "include nearby areas" each time and rerun the search.

Do you have a popup blocker installed?

I have never seen a popup as you say you did, and have had no issues with Search Tempest.

But, suit yourself, and don't try a great resource if it makes you feel better!

Problem with that warbaby, taking the ferry across, is it becomes cost prohibitive when factoring in the total cost of a tractor form some place in northern WI. See lots of bargains over on the other side of the lake, but I bet it would be fun to haul one across the lake.

Try searching with this: oliver -wi -in -oh -il

For me searching with the above from central Michigan, I get zero from Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio or Illinois.

NY 986, Face Book marketplace kicks me off after it figures out that I'm not a registered user. Seems counterproductive to me, I mean do you want to help your user base sell their stuff or not?

They want to help their user base sell their stuff to their user base.

It does limit the pool of potential scammers to just those who have gone through the trouble to create an account, or steal an account at least...

I highly recommend <a href=https://www.searchtempest.com/>Search Tempest</a>. It aggregates the CL results within a specified radius. I don't get any prompt to install anything on my computer; maybe you went to a similar URL that is actually a malware site. Try the embedded link in this message.

Or this popup to add ST to homescreen?

I find tractorhouse and other sites do that, too. There's no reality check to figure out that distance from includes a trip through Chicago... or a ride on the Vomit Comet. (Milwaukee Clipper)

Yeah, that extra trailer length really adds to the fare! I dont mind the roundabout trip through the U.P., its nice country.

I'm going to retract my Search Tempest recommendation. It doesn't seem to work like it used to, and it certainly doesn't do what any normal person would want. That is, it doesn't help you quickly find all the items in a given radius of your home that match your search terms. I suspect CL has managed to break ST's ability to perform aggregat searches.

I didn't want to criticize it if you liked it, but since you admitted it's crap, I'll tell you what happened. I clicked your link, put in Oliver in the search box, put in my zip code and searched within 125 miles. All I got was a few face book ads, and I'm not on face book, and about 500 Ebay ads for olive instead of Oliver. No CL ads even came up. Very few ads for Oliver on Ebay in my search.

Searchtempest has not given Craigslist results in YEARS.

You're right. Craigslist blocked searchtempest from using its ad-free content to SELL ADS. Several years ago now.

How it's still around is beyond me, because as soon as that happened, the site became useless.
