JANicholson-Hy-Tran equiv.-Mobil 424???

Sir, I asked about a locally available CaseIH Hy-Tran (Dealer is nearly 70 miles away) substitute for my Farmall 300 and Farmall 450. You suggested Mobil. I see several Mobil options. Is it the Mobilfluid 424 you are recommending? CaseIH dealer sells Hy-Tran for $123/5gal and locally available Mobilfluid 424 is $104. Not a huge difference BUT 150 odd mile trip is a bummer for the Case IH Hy-Tran. CaseIH parts man (trusted, many-years relationship) says: DO NOT MIX! So . . . drain and refill with Mobilfluid 424? Thanks, kelly

For a 300 and a 450 - go save some money and go to Orschelns and buy their substitute for $39 a 5 gallon bucket. The 300 originally came with 90W (which they learned was incorrect) and the 450 had 10W nondetergent with a quart of treatment additives. Even the cheap substitute that is MS1207 MS1208 compliant will be many times better than the 450 had it when it left the factory.

Orschelns is regional but Tractor Supply is everywhere. If you have a Tractor Supply the Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid is also a fine substitute in older IH tractors.

I think the price is higher than $39.99 a bucket now.

For a 300/450,use the cheap 'hytran' substitute.Powertran;hydrolicgear;any name they call it. You can even mix. Just pour in to top off to correct level.Remember, the hydralic reservoir and rear end/transmission are two different 'containers',there is no common ground here.No reason to use the high dollar OEM HyTran.Of coarse the dealer says to use it only. That's their job. They want your money. That would be a waste of money on those old tractors.

That will work. If your existing fluid is milky, It should be purged with some of the less expensive oil, not full, but enough to remove most of the contamination. Then drain and use the Mobil. Jim
