found a row crop with wide front, doesnt run and the guy said they only made them one year.
Is this correct and are they really worth anything, this one has all the panels supposedly and is loose but doesnt run, tires decent and has a loader on it.

I see they only made them in 1956 and 1957. Interesting. I've seen 3 or 4 around here at auctions.

Took a quick pic of my Grandfathers 40 a couple weeks ago. He's 106 now and is thinning the herd.

The Ferguson F40 was the same as the Massey Harris 50, but not to be confused with the Massey Ferguson 50 which came after. I do not know production numbers on them.

I have a F 40. Unfortunately its been painted red. It was made without power steering. I have a Massey Ferguson50 ,same basic tractor but with power steering. What a difference. I have no idea how many were made. They made that tractor in three versions a Ferguson 40, a Massey Ferguson 50, And a Massey Harris 50, all basically the same tractor ,but sold by three different dealer networks. This is a period when they were trying to consolidate the Dealer net work into one, And they made the three different tractors to keep the dealers happy During the transition.

Are you saying Grandfather is 106 yrs old?
My gosh. He must have lived right all his
life. Good for him. Does longevity run in
your family? That's a nice tractor but I
would really like to see a picture of him
and shake his hand.

Yep, my paternal Grandfather is 106 and still doing great! He retired as a welder the year I was born. (1976)
All I ever knew him as was a farmer. Sweet corn and soybeans. South Jersey.

He took my grandmother on their first date to see the still smoldering Hindenburg!

Here he is with a family member earlier this summer. Amazing man!

If the sheet metal is good, buy it. They share enough drive line and other parts with the MF 50 that there are parts available. The MH 50 can easily be mistaken for the MF 50, but the Ferguson 40 has distinctive styling. I know gold engine and scalps on the hood.

According to the info in the serial number section of this site (found by clicking on -more- up above if using a cell phone, might be somewhere else using a PC), they only made these for 2 years. 1956 and 57. If no break in the serial number, they only made 5,670 of these in 1956. No ending serial number (only a beginning) is shown there for 1957. But IF production closely reflected 1956, your looking at approximately 11,340 of these things produced. If it was greatly different than 1956 production, then who knows?? If I were guessing and was a betting man, I'd probably bet that the production was similar on the second year of production. With only a 2 year run in the production.

The beginning serial number of the 1956 F40 was 400001. The beginning serial number of 1957 was 405671 and the ending serial number was 409097. That would indicate that a total of 9096 were built.
