Yep, My 8n has pulled a 5 foot all its life.
Here it is in 1955 with my Dad an me.

I just don't understand you guys that have no problem with a Ford and bush hog like that. I have a 2N in good strong condition and had 2 different 5 foot mowers and it would not handle just mowing the sides of drive every couple of weeks, The 39 PTO HP John Deere AR it wouls stall the tractor at times. Even the 3 cylinder 4100 it would kill it at times and that tractor was puting out 60 horse on dyno as it was over bored twice, first time because machine was not set correctly and started to bor to side. This tractor is rated as 52 PTO HP. So how can a tractor rated at 23 PTO HP do the job the 60 HP tractor struggled with. And the bigger tractors had a slower ground speed than the little Ford.

All of this talk of bush hog and horse power. When I first got the Oliver Super 88 and rebuilt the motor. On the dino it did 54 horse power. Hooked it to a 15 foot bush hog and mowed Johnson grass taller then the tractor. It would pull it in third but did a lot better job in second. This was Johnson grassnafter wheat had been cut. I could pull it at the same seed with a John Deere 5103 that was nearly new.

I always pulled a 5 ft BMB with my 8N, Hank. Never had a problem, not that I was ever mowing higher than my head horseweed or anything like that. I don't think St Clair Co. MO grows anything an 8N and 5-footer wouldn't mow,,,,gm

I use a 5 foot Bush Hog (tm) regularly behind my 1951 8N with no issues. In very thick (+1') grass I have to raise it a couple of inches, and mow again, but 95% of the time it powers through.
Sharpening the blades occasionally helps as well.
Keep the front about an inch lower than the back. Don't need to mulch! zuhnc

Here's one more vote for a 5-footer. I've used one behind my 1952 8N since the mid 1990s, sometimes in shoulder-tall weeds, and I've had no concerns other than once in a while making a second pass after knocking down the really tall stuff.

A point to consider from personal experience my 4 foot trailing wheel follows in front tire track when turning. So if you are in tight corners you might grab something with the 5 foot trailimg wheel.
