Lawnmower battery. Believe it or not

This battery was discharged. Left outside during the winter.

I thought there's no way this battery will take a charge 12.73 volts.

Second pic is the cranking amps.

I'll let the

Battery sit on the shelf overnight and see what the voltage and if it holds a charge.

12.73 volts is close to the full charge of a battery.
This battery is 275 amp battery.

So you can believe it or not.
I've never seen a dead battery that has been left out in the winter take a charge.

Don't care if you trust my test equipment either.
It works for me. I trust it. That's all that matters.

We had a midtronics battery tester at the GM dealer I worked at. It did always seem accurate.

Plan to put it in the mower tomorrow.
Starter is the only load test that really counts.

I'm amazed. Never had a completely dead battery survive the winter.

YES! That's why I'm impressed. I wasn't even going to put a charger on it. A Smart charger wouldn't do anything with no voltage.

Sub zero some nights, never get above zero for high. Usually my coldest temps may last less than a month.

I carried two batteries down to my JD mower. I opened the hood and there was the battery, still in the mower. Dead as dead can be. Charged it up and it started the mower. I expected it to be dead the next time I wanted to start it, but it started it as well as it has ever had before.

It makes not the tiniest difference whether it is winter or summer when a battery goes dead. If a battery goes REALLY dead in the winter it is going to freeze and crack. We all know that heat kills batteries way more than cold ever will. The reason that winter may seem to be harder on batteries is because we use our equipment less in the winter so a weak battery is likely to go longer in the winter without being discovered. And then it is going to have a harder time to crank the motor due to the cold. Apparently you just happened to find it before it sustained the damage of being dead for an extended time, which happens to probably all of us.
