CNH owns Steiger. Ford bought Versatile. So now Fiat owns them all? Or did I see that Fiat has backed out of some of the farm equipment? I don't know!

(quoted from post at 04:02:59 04/07/22) CNH owns Steiger. Ford bought Versatile. So now Fiat owns them all? Or did I see that Fiat has backed out of some of the farm equipment? I don't know!

New Holland had to sell Versatile as part of the merger with CaseIH. It was sold to Buhler, and then Buhler was bought out by Rostelmash, a privatized Russian company.

Steiger was started on a small farm west of St. Hilaire Mn. I deer hunted around that farm for many years. The actual manufacturing as it grew was in Fargo ND. Several years ago it was bought out by Case IH. Tom in Mn.

Oh by the way that picture of #1 Steiger was taken at the West Fargo Bonanazville where it is on display along with several other makes of tractors. Tom in Mn

On that note JD tried to buy Versatile back in the 80s. It
was almost a done deal but the DOJ got involved and JD
cancelled the deal

I went to service training in Fargo when CaseIH had recently bought Stieger. We never sold those before that. They still painted the new ones red or green depending on what dealer they were going to.

So many different versions of axles, engines, air conditioning etc. Ever try to follow a electrical schematic on one of them. I tried a couple times. Even stopped on the side of the road when going on a service call and went over a diagram. Talk about mass confusion.

Only in the first ones they built out of used parts and barn series which I think was the 1250/1700/2200/3300

We still have the 2200 I bought 20? years ago--The last time we used it was 3 years ago. Had two Steigers before and would put the tile plow I built on them and have to take it off in the Spring for field work but now we leave it on the old 2200. It had a V6 Detroit in it that was shot so I bought a GMC semi tractor with a V 671 in it and we swapped it--Like a dumb A55 I did not save the old motor...

Pulling tile in-It had 23.1 X 26 rotten tires with duals on so I widened the rims and put 28L X 26 on it now..

It was repainted red when we got it-They have a facebook page called Barn Series Steigers and we have this one on there..

They are pretty crude--Son's 8630 with a Cummins 855 big cam for a pull tractor..

I watched a 2200 sell about 20 years ago. It was one of the last ones made since it was assembled in Fargo. I dont know about yours but the fit and finish on this one crude to say the least. My high school welding teacher would have failed me with some of the welds I saw on this tractor.

I never was around any with a Detroit Engine. They were using the Caterpillar and Cummins in the ones around here. Only Cummins when they turned CaseIH. But, hey, that was over twenty years ago when I was out of there.

Also, early on, CaseIH did not have the Stieger emblem on them as they bought rights to that later.

Cat engines were still an option after CIH bought them out and turned them red. Not very common but Ive seen them with my own eyes.

When our FFA Chapter toured the factory in '75 or '76 they were building green Steigers, red IH's, blue Fords and orange Allises.

Quite a variety of colors out on the yard awaiting shipment!

Fiat dropped the Steiger name for awhile , about 20 years ago .they also dropped the Cummins engine for an iveco

Back in their day they were the king of a very small hill--You are right about the welds-No picture perfect automatic weld-all hand welding by North Dakota farm boys---Tee

We've got 3 and all have Cats in them. The panther has a 325 Cat the one cougar has a 310 in it out of a truck. The last has the short hood like Tee's with a Cat a bit older than the 3306 don't remember what it is. Could look tomorrow when I go by there to the other place. They all have the same 10 speed Spicer with the Panther having the 2 speed drop box so 20 speed all together on it. The old cougar has a flat hood only short like that 2200 his is probably a bit older than ours. They were putting Cat engines in till the 80's at least.

I ran a 350 with a Cat in it a mid 80s model pulling 45 -foot flexi coil chisel plow had 10 speeds between you legs and 2 more levers up on the dash . Ran a little 250 horsepower with a v8 cat in it the owner said never run about 2000 rpm so you would work the throttle all day later found you run throttle all the way open and leave it . Then I ran an stx 425 on wheels and an stx 425 quad track the hydraulics were slow on all of them but they could pull . The green ones sounded like the drivelines were going to . Come through the floor when you turned but they didnt

Those were the days . Used to a few international Steigers
around here never seen a real Ford or Allis
