More out of storage.

Had so much fun yesterday getting some of my old tractors
out to pet and play with that I thought I had better get a
couple of the ones that I make my living with out of storage
and get them ready for spring planting.

I have never been in or driven either one of these beasts before. Nice looking tractors for sure. The Versatile looks mean. . Kow Farmer

No snow! Are you in need of moisture? Do you plant in April? Probably raise wheat and canola. Do you store most grain on the farm? Looks like LOTS of storage capacity! Here in southern Minnesota it's mostly corn and soybeans raised. Plenty of power there. What make of engines do those two tractors have?

Great looking machines, I also like what they're parked on. Looks very smooth, do you run a blade or rake across it from time to time or does it stay nice n smooth from the normal traffic? Looks like a nice, organized operation. Gerrit

Hi Bob. The new Holland is 365 hp and the versatile is set at 485 hp right now. It has a Pittsburgh power programmer in it. We seed 2400 acres currently. We seed wheat, canola, barley and yellow peas. I have in the past seeded yellow mustard as well.

Thanks Gerrit. I have a 7 or 8 foot piece of heavy rail road track that I pull around with my old tractors. The ground is very hard in the yard as well so it helps to keeep it
nice and level.

This is a very old picture of the yard. That old cattle shelter is gone now and the green blue shed has been expanded and retinned since this picture was taken.

All the bins I see are cone bottom. Is every bin on the farm cone? What a treat to not have to use sweep auger. Where are you? Here in So. Mn. all our bins are flat bottom so we can run aeration through them. Do you not need air in bins for your crops? Looks like you take great care your stuff.

Hi Ron. We are extremely dry here. Desperately in need of rain or wet snow. We sometimes get going by the last week in April but typically not till the first of may. We seed canola , wheat, yellow peas and barley. We store all of our grain on the farm yes. I have about 110,000 bushel of storage all together at three different bin sites. And I have access to some storage that I can rent if needed. Both those tractors have Cummins Diesel engines in them.

Thanks Kow Farmer. They can be a bit intimidating to operate the first time you do it but then it gets easy. They are very comfortable to run.

Thank you flying belgian. It takes a lot of work to keep things looking and working good for sure. Most of my bins are flat bottom as well and I use an auger to take the free run out and then use a grain vac to clean up the bin bottoms. There is about 38000 bushel of hoppered storage. The two big hopper bottom bins have air tubes in them but I dont use air here at all. Our farm is in southern Alberta.

Do you have hitches on those tractors or just drawbars noticed the stack of front weights on both . I always liked blue Versailles never been around the new red ones

Man, you are running a pretty big operation with that big stuff MHN, great photos. How is your MH25 project coming along? Tom from our club is the guy near Ft. Sask that had the parts tractor you picked up. I have a MH 20 not too far from Tom's place, at the Bremner historic farm site where our tractor club is located. I keep my one remaining tractor there, a MH 20 that we use for a chore tractor at the site where we have our pulls plus we do some hay and grain farming. Here'e a link to our club's website and a pic of my Massey.

H, what is it that you have attached to the rail that from the photo makes it look like a handle of some kind? Leon

Not sure what your referring to Leon. If its the loop looking thing on the right hand side of the versatile tractor it is a handle to grab onto to help get you up the ladder
into the cab.

Hi Crazy Horse. Beautiful 20. I have one that runs with all the tin as well. However mine is all rust colored. I used some parts off of the tractor I got from him. The 25 is up and running with new rubber on it. Ill send a picture.Tom sends me pictures of your seeding events and harvest events when he has time. Thank you.

Good morning SVcummins. Both those tractors have drawbars only on them. Rear cast weight as well. I have triple tires for the new Holland tractor but took them off a couple years ago because I didnt need them any more. They are both great tractors. The red one has a larger cab and the 16 speed power shift transmission other than that very similar tractors in the way they where constructed.

MH, I am referring to the picture of the old MH pulling the rail to level your yard. Looks like a handle welded to the rail? Leon

I really like that MH20, looks like a nice original tractor. Don't think I've ever seen one around here. Gerrit

Sorry Leon. Yes there is an arm attached to the rail with an adjustable jack and wheel on it to change the angle of the rail edge so it will cut in more or less depending on
what Im trying to do.

It is an original and a family tractor as well. Belonged to a cousin of my dads so I guess Im a second owner. His daughter gave it to me. Runs really nice and I have a
sickle mower that goes with it.

Thanks MH, whereabouts in southern Alberta do you farm, spent 26 years in Alberta some of it in Three Hills and Bassano.

(quoted from post at 10:05:45 04/04/22) a 4890 for light work???? Dam! lol
ooks like a nice MF65 in the background by the gray building still wearing it's original clothes.

No on the pulls!!! My enjoy is in buying and fixing them up!!!! I have 10 (8 that are refurbished) of the Massey Harris, several Farmalls, an allis chalmers, the Coop and a Ford Ferguson

You mentioned that you have a M-H sicle mower for one of your tractors. As a kid, for at least for 6 years until I left for college, I mowed the 180 acres of alfalfa hay on our farm in SD at least 3X a year. We used a M-H semi-mounted mower. It was attached to the drawbar of a 1944 H Farmall. We mowed in 4th gear, @ about 5 3/4 MPH. What a great mower. It would mow circles around any of the JD, NI or IHC mowers any of the neighbors had. As long as it was serviced when needed with new ledger plates, sickle clip plates, sickle hold down clips & a sharp sickle, it would efficiently cut anything that grew. Except for ledger plates, all other wear parts were inexpensive and easy to replace. It was a great mower.

Yes I like the hunting for them and the wheeling and dealing to buy them and the biggest fun is when they fire up and run good after working on them. Then I do enjoy taking them to pulls and making them work.

Antique tractor pulls are my favorite tractor pulls and enjoy watching them but other then at the threshing bees the fairs around here have go to the bigger modern and souped up tractors!! I think it would be fun to compete in one!!!

What I ment to say is the fairs that have tractor pulls have gone to the bigger modem and the souped up or hot rod tractors, theyre okay but Id rather watch or compete in the antique tractor pulls!!!!

We dont have any modified tractor pulls down here. There are some modified tractors that show up but they are not allowed to compete in the pull all they can do is a demo pull.

They are nice . Ford owned versatile for a long the new Holland you have appears to have versatile roots . Now the Russians own versatile . Do the triples limit turning ?

cvphoto122190.png

Yes SVcummins. It definitely has Versatile roots. Its really a versatile with blue paint. It has ford, versatile and new Holland branding on it. I call it my blue Belarus but it is a great tractor. As far as the steering goes I had to put spacers behind the stop blocks on the frame so the tires wouldnt touch. Did not really loose very much turning radius though.

No. The low intermediate and high ranges are straight cut gears. The 4 speed gear box is synchro. Not a great transmission if you are shifting all the time. You have to use the clutch all the time..Where we are at it works good because you put it in one gear and work in the field for hours without needing to shift.

Those big tractors usually dont need to shift a lot its nice to have but they have enough torque to handle the load usually sometimes have to pick a gear a little slower than you might want

"The low intermediate and high ranges are straight cut gears."

Pretty sure it's "constant mesh, sliding collar" with helical gears, no synchros on those collars, though.
