8N -ELECTRICITY TO DISTRIBUTOR, COIL (TEST LITE) - NEW ELEC. IGNITION INSTALLED (RAN 5 YEARS W/ ELEC IGNITION THEN STOPPED RUNNING) ELECT TO COIL (TEST LITE) - NEW 12V COIL - NEW CAP - HAVE SPARK INDICATOR ON PLUG WIRE - NO SPARK TO PLUGS, WHAT COULD BE WRONG ...

replaced old ignition with new set - tractor stomped working, no spark to plugs - bought new ignition kit - still no spark to plug, new coil and cap - test lite to coil shows electricity - can there be a short somewhere in distributor ... old elec ignition ran 5 years no problem ....

I'm not sure what you mean by 'have spark indicator on plug wire - no spark to plugs'. Can you clarify a bit?

FWIW, Pertronix ignition modules have been known to fail when non-resistor spark plug wires are used.

i bought a test lite that plugs into the sparkplug wire and attaches to spakplug in motor and lites up when there is a spark - i tested it on the jubilee and showed the spark as the motor was running. - must have tool otherwise would not know if spark was there or not.

the original electronic ignition was put in tractor 5 years ago w/ no problems till a week ago - no changes made, just died out in the field ...

I would web search for testing information for your
unit. As an example x.. ..electronic ignition test
process.. placing the brand you have in front. It looks
like most of them require a multimeter. Pertronix is a
common brand and what YT sells. In short the test is
checking for an alternating disruption of the ground ..distributor.. side of the coil circuit while the engine is turning. Just as breaker points
open and close the circuit as their contacts open and
close.

Edit to correct terminology, JMOR thanks for pointing out my error. Sorry, if there is weird spacing in this reply. The YT edit feature and iPhones do not always play well together.

f it is 12v neg ground, the Pertronix #1247 supplies ground to the coil, not power. The attached is Pertronix test for the #1247 module.

"Pertronix ignition modules have been known to fail when non-resistor spark plug wires are used."

Not to mention, for no apparent reason, at all!

I will not install a Electronic ignition unless the guy absolutely wants it because of the possibility of failure with out notice. You usually do not have another on hand to replace it like you may have a point-cond. assy. Had to much trouble with those E.I. set ups.

I've removed and reinstalled points a good many time due to them going bad. Point work and can be cleaned if they stop working. Electronic ignition when they stop working your dead i nthe water for day or week or even months

I've only had one electronic ignition fail and it was my fault, after 9 years of use with solid core wires it quit and when I ordered the replacement module it stated not to use with solid core wires, I should
have read the directions in the first place and I'm sure it would not of failed, I have six vehicles with Pertronix ignition in them and only one has ever failed, a couple have had over 15 years and 70,000
miles on them.
