Forks for Grandpa's new tractor.

When I can't buy something, I usually make it.
The bucket on Terramite doesn't use forks like you can use on bobcats. It has two pins that are a pain to remove and put

back on.
I made my forks using 7 inch used channel. The forks hook on the front of bucket, go underneath and a bolt holds them in place. I have 4 holes to move forks. I tried clamping forks to the bucket, didn't like. I've never bent the bucket. Used the forks many times, mostly for loading logs on a truck and cleaning up a mess after a tree is cut down or blown down. Forks are real back saver.

My neighbor wanted me to make him a rear ballast for his Massey using a 55 gallon barrel filled with concrete. Estimated weight 1200# That was pushing the limit of what the terramite can handle. Forks never bent. The bucket never bent either.

There have been times I've grabbed a log with the hoe for rear ballast so I could lift a heavy log and remove weight from front

wheels

Because there is no 3 pt hitch on a loader backhoe the forks can be modified to put a landscape rake or grader blade on.

No 3 pt that I'm aware of can apply down

pressure like I can.

Hope this gives Grandpa ideas how to make his new toy a handy toy.

Nice work, they do what you need them to do.

FYI, Farmal 300s among other tractors have down pressure on the three point hitch.

Like you I made forks for my big tractor out of channel iron but I kept bending the channel . The tractor was rated to pick up 3500#. I down sized to a Massey 1723e like Grampa's. Had dealer put on a Grabble bucket. I love the Grabble but think I'll get a set of forks also the forks are handy also.

Your tractor was rated to pick up 3500#?

WOW, 3500 is a lot.

Your forks can hole more brush than a grabble.

The old industrial loader tractors had a much higher lift capacity than you would expect. The Massey Ferguson 203 loader tractor I used to have was rated at 3200lbs I believe. I wish I kept it, it was a good little tractor.

Rock

The rating is with a backhoe I know for sure it will pick up 3000#. I picked up a 3000# tractor to scrape out. Scrape yard said it was 3000#. I tried to sent a picture of my Massey with a Gabble load but It will not send. I get the picture in the preview but it will not sent picture only message

Only the old IH fast hitch had down pressure. They had an external rockshaft like a Saginaw 3 point. You had a pin in the linkage to get your down pressure.Anything 560 and older had the old external system.706 and newer did not have down pressure. They are strictly a gravity down like everyone else is.

The reason for no down pressure on 3 pt. implements is that you can interrupt the traction necessary for the rear wheels to function....like jack them up completely off the ground in an exaggerated show of force. With that said, I like the bucket added forks you have as compared to the 3 and 4 foot clamp ons that are sold today, of which I have a set I bought for a small tractor that didn't have a Skid Steer FEL bucket attachment mechanism.

Course, as you well know, there's a ft-lbs weight penalty for the added distance from the pivot point if you are working a the max rating and on that small tractor I did have to deal with that problem.

On that rake you have in your picture, I scoffed at them for many decades but last year I bought one to do a job at a neighbors farm. Since having it, I am amazed at its usefulness. I should have known better years ago and bought one early on.

The fast hitch on my Super C has down pressure, with the blade on it makes a good tire bead breaker.

I have a Saginaw 3 pt on my Farmall C. Like you said, there is a pin on it you can take in or out depending on whether you want down pressure or not. For most things I just leave it out for no down pressure. But it is my favorite tractor for running my 3 pt. post hole digger with the down pressure.

(quoted from post at 09:19:22 01/22/22) Im looking for an adaptor/mounting plate to allow me to use 3pt implements on my skid loader Boom pole, back blade etc.
any sources

Some of the fab shops that make skid steer implements will build you a skid steer universal quick attach for your front end loader. I started making one for mine but haven't finished yet. Will convert the bucket to quick attach thereafter.

If you are buying a brand "NEW" loader tractor without a quick attach system shame on you. If GP did he made a big mistake.

HoBo
How many loaders do you have?
I have 3. Only my 2019 Kubota
has a quick hitch.
A loader/backhoe is usually used for digging a hole and filling
it back in. No need to remove the front bucket.
The Kubota is my elevator to the loft
cvphoto114934.jpg

When it comes to moving cut limbs and brush, I use terramites.
No radiators to run a stick through.
And the front bucket helps to keep the brush away from the
motor. One time a stick got past the bucket and put a hole in
the crankshaft oil seal on a 20 hp Kohler engine. Easy fix cheap
fix.

Would have been an expensive repair on the kubota.

If I were lifting logs in an open area, I would use the kubota .

Logging in the woods, terramite.
