Sub compact

Looking at used sub compact tractors. Do these have a title? Dont want to buy one and later find out it has a lean on it.

SV,
While working on Terry, short for terramite, I discovered the serial number was welded on the frame. No way to grind off that weld. The numbers are welded on both sides of the frame in a place you can't see unless you are on the ground looking for them. Big numbers.

I'm not sure if there is a way to search to find out if a tractor has been stolen.

NO Industrial equipment (tractors) do not have a title. You can do a search with your secretary of
state and determine if there is an existing lien if you have the MAKE< MODEL<& serial number.

There is. If a police report is filed with equipment information such as serial number, the local law agency will list it NCIC.
Police can check it the same way they check stolen cars. If it has a serial number, it can be listed.

Correct. You should be able to request a local LEA to run a check on the serial number. If it's in the system, even a couple decades back, it will pop up. You can also check with them to see if the description matches any local reports of stolen items if you don't have the #. That's more of a crap shoot, but sometimes it helps someone recover their property and puts a thief behind bars...well, these days they turn them all loose, but you get the idea.

Check with your local police agency if they have any report on the serial number. I have brought a
couple used Kubota's and my local Kubota dealer would give me the history on when and where its been
purchased and what record they had on the unit in question.

Equipment like tractors that dont have a title and are
used as collateral have what is called a UCC filing. The
UCC filing is on record with the Secretary of State.

George yes there is a list or national registry that law enforcement can check. More than that we would have to work backwards , cops would find a shed of stolen items but the serial numbers would be removed. Most times with the engine serial number if it was a KUBOTA I could locate what model and where it was originally sold.
