What is your winter project?

With fall harvest starting to end what winter projects do you have planned? My first is to put a diesel engine in a 3020 gas that I have here.
Then it is a complete rebuild of a Deere 95 combine along with some updates including an overhauled 329 diesel engine. Then find the hyd
problem with the 4520. Tom

Harvest is a long ways from being done even for the big guys around here. A project implies fun. By the time I figure what I need for spring any money will be spent. If I had extra money it would nice to buy that JD 630 that I have dreamed for many years about.

I have a 750 Deere dozer in here to re-paint and check over,,it's a 2002 with only 1600 hours,,the paint is faded,,the machine is like new,, I want to make it look new..I thought I would have it done by now...I also have a 6 way blade to put on my 60C..

(quoted from post at 08:21:02 11/04/21) Mine is to keep waking up.

That's my first goal also!

Once that's accomplished---I pulled this out of the weeds last summer. In my younger days I spent many hours pulling this around. My plan is to spend the winter making it pretty again.
I also have the tractor we used to pull it with. That got painted a few years ago. Once the plow is done the plan is to reunite the two and have a cool looking parade unit.

I am going to build an old truck with a 4X4 chassis, I have some parts vehicles gathered just not sure of the final plan just yet.

Fall combining is only about half done around here too. Lots of beans and corn still in the field. Got stuck last night with the combine. Only been stuck with it 3 times in 12 years or so. Then lots to due cutting wood all winter.

First is to finish reassembling the Chevy 4x4 pickup I've worked on all summer.

It's my snow plow, so I need to get it back in the game within a month or so.

Then I need to do a major cleanup and reorganization in my shop. After that, maybe run one of my H Farmalls in and treat it to new paint.

It may be easier for me to name off what doesn't have to be done. Still trying to pick soybeans and mow ditches and wood lines. Got started cutting up the corn land. Got grandaddy's Farmall 100 in shop putting it back together after the driver ran it into a tree. Waiting on parts to come in to finish. Son has me a lengthy list..,clutch job on his 140, get his new to him IH 295 planter on 30 inch rows, finish up the 28 blade King disk, shut wheels on 300 in to 30 inch, revive the 2 row rolling cultivator if he elects to plant corn. I had to tell him to whoa up a bit as he thinks it can all be done in a day or 2. Not much of this listed even covers what normal wintertime repairs / maintenance normally occur for the farm use.

My winter project is to modify a JD 4020 power shift for tractor drive use, like the IH 560 and Ford 6000 diesels are. If it's ready for the 2022 summer play season, fine, if not other two are ready to go.

I'm trying to clear my shop out enough to actually DO a project. I've been selling odds and ends on Ebay for a few weeks. I have the components cut out to make 8 or 10 step stools so I'll make 2 or 3 up for Christmas presents this year. I have some stuff, like a couple of really sound turbo's, that I'm not sure where to try to go with. Oh well,,,,,gm

tractor related. The JD I use for my mowing business needs almost nothing. My MF 231 needs the hood painted, and the shut off on the fuel tank replaced. Need to check the bearings on my flail mower. I will probably continue work on the side car, I want to mount to my 47 Indian Chief motorcycle. Other than that, just the usual things that come along in life. stan

Paint, tile, new door for the guest bath.

Couldn't do anything with it for the last few years because Mom was using it. Now she's gone and I just cant get beyond stand and stare at it.

One of these days...

43 Farmall H needs an engine rebuild.
50 Case VAI needs governor looked at.
51 Farmall Cub needs carb, electrical, and trans work.
I have started on the Cub and have most of the engine parts for the H, just have to finish the summer projects first.

Suppose to have my pacemaker battery changed out this winter so that will interfere with projects but I want to get it done before next spring. Will see Doc on Friday.

Need to take a big 'ol "anteater" (IH 3788) apart and replace the clutch and the TA.

Those of you who know WHERE the clutch and TA are located in an anteater will know this will be an interesting project!

(Photo of a 3788 from the 'net, as I don't have a photo of mine at hand.)

Start off with a cab kit and new headliner for the White 2-88.

Some other stuff like new rubber for the triple six farmall.Fixing up a 1999 24 valve/5 speed Ram with 500k on it.Just about everything has been replaced or rebuilt on it at one time or another.

Paint a loader green to match the tractor . Finish a cummins engine if I ever get the time . Repower a welder. rewire the 3020 reseal the breakaway couplers . Start on the 420c rebuild . Havent had time to do anything yet but I dont know what work is .

My 2510 needs rear axle bearings and seals.

My 720d needs a good looking over. Fuel pressure is erratic and the governor needs rebuilt. If I get A LOT of shop time this winter I'd love to tear down the pony motor and figure out why it pukes oil out the exhaust. I'm expecting a broken piston ring. If I can get that stopped I'll have the sheet metal painted.

How much of this I actually accomplish however depends on how cold and snowy our winter is.

My 9n seems to have a problem with the left brake. Can't push the pedal down. Also has a leak at the lower 3pt pin on the left side. I bought a starter repair kit for it also. The cable stud has had strip threads since before I bought it. I have been using a stack of washers to get up higher on the good threads.

total left knee replacement, if I feel good rewire a '65 4020 diesel, that should only take a day or 2, have the harnesses here from agri-services.

Finished the oak shadow box for my grandson's swimming medals. Then make several plaques to mount my son's deer antlers. Other winter stuff as needed.

Try to finish building and heating the one side of my pole barn into a workshop. Then getting started on the IH Scout restoration that 2 years behind. Finish a VAC restoration that's about 10 years behind.

After a total left hip replacement last January, see if I can work up 4 cord of firewood. Was not able to do any last year, but have enough in the shed for this winter and some of next.

The usual... rebuild forage equipment, manure equipment, the planter, the no till drill needs some work, accounting, long range planning, keep the pipes thawed, and hopefully sit by the fire!

Rehabbing a duplex to host traveling nurses.
Replacing the carburetor on the snow plow tractor.
Hip and/or knee replacement.

I'll be working on the 54 International R120, putting a 7.3 Powerstroke in a Ford Highboy, and building an off road truck from an S10 ZR2 rust bucket. Hopefully will have a lot of it on my YouTube channel. https://youtube.com/channel/UCpzgmaY6NNCEqk_5H-xkKcA

My winter project,

Staying warm and pushing snow if we ever get any. Only had to push snow once in 5 years. I will still remove the mower and putting on snow plow Dec 1.

I have a pile of top soil which I plan to use to fill in pot holes in yard. Do after snow plow goes on, I may be on pot hole patrol. I want my lawn smooth enough to go 6 mph and not feel any bumps in lawn.

Finish remodeling the rest of the inside of my house to sell it next year while the prices are through the roof in my area. Got to paint 2 bedrooms and redo the kitchen. Then just some touch ups. I'm going to try and tear off 3 layers of shingles on my 2 car garage and re roof it before it gets to cold.

My biggest project is an IH 76 Combine. It's been in a fence row for about 20 years but is in surprisingly good shape. I also have a #37 Baler to tinker with, as well as putting a NF pedestal on my 300. If I get to it, the Case T6 spreader needs some attention, but it doesn't get used much so no hurry. I opened up another piece of ground last month that'll need to be worked up as well, and I'm in the process of finishing a hog pen so I can start raising a few porkers again. A lot to do, but it's gonna be a long winter.

I seem to currently like to build period ships having gone through several other types of indoor construction hobbies and having done the Christopher Columbus 3 ship fleet and the Mayflower all from (Artesania Latina) wood model company plus half a dozen others including the Constitution from other suppliers. Currently doing my second Red Dragon of theirs for my second new Chinese neighbor. Once you get the expertise and proper tools, these ships are fun to build....even the Rat Lines....one knot on every crossing......but I have tools to aid in that too. All my farm stuff is fixed and running so nothing to do out there and besides, at 80 and counting, its warm inside!

We have a very diverse community forming here (the area is exploding) and I thought it would be a nice Christmas present for my new neighbors with whom I have developed a fond relationship....he's a urban transplant from San Diego and needed help adjusting to farm life....I was more than happy to accommodate him. We have had a lot of fun. Neat thing about his employment is that he works from home and was the case when living out west before the health mess so his move to the country was right in line with his employment requirements.

That's some beautiful work there, is that some of your cedar, or did you get it from Amish?
Coach Moore in Appleton City helped Bailey make a beautiful Oak shelf for 4H last summer.
Would wild cherry work the same as that eastern red cedar for projects like yours? we have a log
cut out of fencerow we might try to work up... GG

Thanks for the compliment. I know Kevin Mitchell but not Moore. They field good teams over there. I bought a couple of sawn cedar boards from an Amish guy down by Humansville and made it from that. I'm not educated enuf on wood to tell you about the different cedars. I generally use oak tongue and groove I buy from a hardwood floor guy. The cedar was softer and easier to work. That one was for my wife. I bought a 66 Oli up your way maybe 25 years ago from George the bull guy. gm
