Woven fabric brake lining question ....

Maybe some of you can pass along advice and experience for my question. Will the woven fabric brake lining work for EXPANDING brake bands (not brake shoes) which expand inside of the brake drum when the brakes are applied? I know it is used for outside contracting bands, just wondering about the opposite type. It's for a Massey Harris 101, all versions of those had the same brake system.

I put Kevlar lined bands in my 17 Model T when I rebuilt it 19 years ago.
Of course those are on the outside of the drum.

I believe I had to use woven linings for expanding clutch shoes in a bulldozer winch. Composite linings tore apart. Going by memory as this was 40 years ago.

I know you asked about woven, but when I relined my 101 JR. bands, I got the material and rivets from McMaster Carr. They had a variety of sizes and materials to choose from. steve

It will work. Kevlar or simi-metallic will also work. The finish on the drum should be 250 grit or smoother. Jim

What did it have originally?

That would be my first choice.

But if you already have woven fabric, nothing to loose by trying, just keep watch on it.

It had the hard rigid lining originally. I thought that if a guy was doing it himself, the woven fabric type would be easier what with being more flexible (I think). I do know that each brake lining section is 10-3/8 x 1-3/4 x 3/16, two of those on each band.
