Cub issues second tractor

Bought a cub back in June. We knew motor was stuck. Sold some planter and cultivator parts off it and have about $200 in the tractor. Pulled the head, one cylinder had a small line of rust running down to the piston. Those 2 valves were rusty. No water visible. Wiped it out good, poured transmission fluid in everything. Took oil plug out , 3-4 quarts of just oil came out. Let it sit a week, fluid drained out of 3 cylinders, but not the one that was rusted. Sucked the transmission fluid out and tried Free All...... 2 weeks later tried Deep Creep. Valve cover is off and been spraying Deep Creep in there every day or two. Transmission fluid will now drain past all four pistons. Starter is off and even with a 4 ft pry bar that motor will not budge. Motor is surprisingly clean, not a rusty mess like some I've seen. Any thoughts? I put it in 3rd gear and rock it back and forth nearly every day. Then take it out of gear to use pry bar.

Have you taken a block of wood that will just fit in there and tapped a bit with a hammer?
I have done that after soaking them and seen movement.
You usually don't have to hit hard with the hammer.
Don't want to break a piston.

How much rain did you get?

If you know anyone with a large engine lathe you could have them turn you a hardwood block. Pick a piece of straight hardwood limb. Have them turn the cylinder a little under the size of the bore and the length of the stroke. The important part is to cup the bottom leaving a 1/4 inch around the outside. That way the force will be on the piston walls. You could drive it with a large hammer or push with a hydraulic jack. Rig the jack with chain, tighten and check time to time

Gpl, assuming you have a parts engine, how much trouble could it be to break the stuck piston out of the hole, hone it good, and put another old piston in it? gm

Can you move the valves?? If the valves are stuck that can lock up the whole engine. Also have you tried the tablespoon of gas in each cylinder and light it and let it burn till it goes out

A screw driver or chisel between the base of the valve and the lifter and pry them up so they are open about 1/4-3/8 of an inch. That is what I had to do to the cub I have

What the heck is rain??? Haven't seen enough or it to even settle any dust let alone do any good in a month or so..

As for the valve once you have them open you can pour ATF etc down in around them to help free them up.

About an hour ago I almost got my Cub stuck. Had to use 3rd gear to get it to spin it way out of a drainage ditch I have for the duck swimming pool

I would take a block of hardwood and tap on the top of all pistons. Start out with a small hammer and work up. That way you are working the stuck piston up and down.
I broke loose an engine that way.
A rust remover converts rust, Iron Oxide, back to Iron.
Start out with a dilute rust remover. See if you will break up the rust.
You are having too much fun.

Hey Old, all the valves will push up..... Got a chunk of wood stuck it on pistons and whacked it a few good times. Still ain't moving.

You may need to pull the oil pan and if you can take the rods loose from the crank shaft and then see if you can turn the crankshaft out of the way so you can then try pushing the piston down a bit more and then go under it and push them back up. If you can get them down say a 1/2 inch or so be sure to oil up the cylinder good before trying to go back up

You could have something else locking it up other then the pistons. That is why I say if you can take the rods loose and turn the crank so the rods can more down with out the crank then you will know what isn't moving could even be the crank shaft that will not move

Water could have done it by rusting the rod or main bearing areas so the crankshaft can be locked up. If you can take the rods loose and push the pistons up that would tell you they are not the cause of it being locked up

The Final Solution: Years ago I bought two M's that were stuck tighter than Dick's hatband. One had run about a year earlier so I started a teardown. Number 1 piston was stuck hard, the rest came out with lots of effort. I tried about as many things as you have with no luck, heating, fire, torch, snake oil, small hammer, BFH, you name it. Took the rod cap loose and hit it with a piece of hardwood, no luck. Okay tough guy you're coming out. Took a 1/2 inch drill bit and drilled several holes in the top of the piston. Got underneath it and beat the daylights out of it, it broke loose and came out, sleeve and all. Used piston, new sleeve, new rings all around, zipped it up and it ran fine. The rings on the stuck piston had almost 'bonded' to the piston, glad I got it out. Remember, Go Ugly Early! Good Luck with yours!

That might work but if the crankshaft is rusted if you get it freed up good chance it will throw a rod soon after you get it running due to the rust
