Early Nuffield Universal from around 1949 to 52 with a petrol/kerosene engine. They
were way ahead of their time back then being fast, quiet and with a petrol/kerosene
change over on the choke. Choke out, fully petrol, half out, petrol kero mixture and
fully in, kero. They also had a Super Throttle position where you fully opened the
throttle for work then could move the lever slightly sideways and pull it back
another inch for more speed.

Engine was a Morris side valve, (flat head) design based on truck engines of the
time. Years ahead of others at the time, the Fordson Major E27N was the main
competitor. Trouble was Nuffield never progressed the basic design and other makes
overtook them. My 1968 tractor is still the same with few improvements 20 years
after the original came out.

Hi Majorman they got left behind. Only 5 forward gears till the 10/60 in 1964 and depth control hydraulics in 1960 but no position control hydraulics till the Leyland tractors in 1972 (Ford 8N tractors had position and depth control in 1947). The first Nuffields started at serial number 501 and I used to drive 608. MJ.
