Ford 9N front steering problem

I am using a 60inch rotary mower on my Ford 9N but I find turning corners tricky as the front tires slide rather than going around the corner. The front tires are Wrangler truck tires.

Would more weight on the front end help with the steering or perhaps different tires ?

Looking for suggestions

Peter

If the tires have substantial tread, they will grip Ok if you add 1/2 the weight of the mower to the front. 200# to 250. My guess. Jim

Thanks for the suggestions..

The tires have lots of tread so extra weight may be the answer. I will experiment and see how I do.

I know the brake require three feet to operate on a 9n, but if you get them working they can be a big help in tight corners. Just hold the one on the inside of your turn and the front will come right around. Hope that helps.

I was going to put two David Bradley garden tractor weights on the front bumper of my 9n. When I was ready to do it. The weights got up and walked away. Mowers are heavy and set back away from the tractor. They take the weight off the front. A little more weight on the front is what you need.

That tractor came from the factory with single rib tires. Most gave been changed and truck tires are convenient and cheap----but

The truck tires will never grip good no mater if they are brand new. Find a set of rims made for that tractor that uses 16 tires and pot 6:00x16 try rib tires on and fill the tires with fluid of some kind. You do not want weight hanging off the front end and axle as that will only make hard steering. Owner of a 41 9N and 44 2N for 76 years.

You may need to raise your mower a little as you turn, especially if the mower is completely on the ground. Mark.

9N-2N rims are the same rim, only thing might be difference if the orignal 19 rim or later supplied 16 rim. Now the 8N rim is different but might still take same weights, never had the weights so din't know how made.
