Everything was Good. Placed wires for lights and wiring harness fried. The wire I believe to cause the melt was the wire from starter button to solenoid?

To my way of thinking if the wires you were working with were the headlight wires, then those wires caused the short, not the wire you were NOT working on.

Regardless, you had a dead short circuit, and that's what caused the wires to melt.

Obvious sign of a dead short to ground. I put a wire on the wrong battery terminal once. Melted a few wires together and they smoked a lot also. The wire that has the most damage is the first place to look.
Good luck

hat wire is among the least likely suspects, as the switch simply grounds it for START anyway, so a short to ground on that wire would be the same as pressing START switch....just crank the engine.

If the wire from the start button whereto short out all that would happen is the starter would spin the engine over till either the started burned up or the battery goes dead. Almost impossible for it to smoke the wiring harness
