This is my Son's hobby.
Handles were made from a 12 inch ash log he split into quarters. We used 6 inch jointer and table saw to get it to look like the first pic.

Though I would share.

This axe is for his uncle that lives in Florida.

Wow that's some real talent. Making the handle is one thing, getting it tight and staying tight when installing handle is pretty darn tuff to do too. Looks like you've mastered both!

I'm proud of my son.
He'll be 42 and up to now he was a computer nerd.
Woodworking is his nnalert hobby.
I'm happy to pass along any wood tool he wants.
He has a space problem. So sometimes he comes over
and we work in pole barn.

Armoure????
Or was it chasing cats?

I dont have time for hobbies. Maybe when my children are gone but Ill be done by then.
Grant.

call my small acreage my hobby farm which I enjoy doing, also because you don't usually make money on hobbies which is the case with this "hobby" farm. My other hobbies over the past 60 years or so has been restoring cars, tractors and antique furniture.

Your son does good work George.

My wife's grandfather made all of his wooden tool handles, singletrees, gambrel sticks and walking plow/cultivator/double shovel handles. I still have a few around here. It was rainy day pastime work for him, along with straightening buckets full of bent nails and other activity that we would scoff at today. He quit farming in the early 60's, and never owned anything with an internal combustion engine.

We share similar hobbies. This is my
biggest wood project was made from ruff
cut red oak from a sawmill.

This is my 5 year project. Doubling the
size of a ranch house.
cvphoto94394.jpg

I too have rebuilt a Farmall and Jubilee
The Farmall is still a working girl on a
22 acre abandon gravel pit.
cvphoto94397.jpg

The Jubilee is retired after buying a new
Kubota in 2019. I used it to mow 2+ acre
rental property that I recently sold
after owning it for 42 years.

The Kubota is now used to mow 2 acres

Around my new pole barn.
Before I got into remolding rentals I
restored and did some body work. Biggest

Restoration project was a 1962 Jaguar
XKE. I sold it before I retired 17 years
ago. Got rid of my motorcycles too. A
1966 triumph 650 I had for 40 years.

I'm slowing down now. Glad my boy is
picking up the torch

Minus the two inches on the head would that be a 10 inch handle? And would that be more hatchet than axe?

Thanks to all for your positive comments. I'm a proud dad showing what my son has accomplished with his hobby.

Even prouder what he has accomplished with his career which started as his hobby when in HS.

That's some fantastic work! I have friends who are into bushcrafting and the folks in the bushcrafting community are always looking for a good axe. If he needs to sell any of those, that would be a great place to start.

(quoted from post at 18:53:28 07/12/21) You should get a hobby of your own George.

GOSH, "dog", following his posts here I think Geo has a number of "hobbies", being "cheap", driving a late model GM car that's under warranty, and "batteries"!

"Batteries", mostly!

Like my son
cvphoto94473.jpg

I have wood working skills.
I also have carpenter skills.
cvphoto94474.jpg

Brick laying skills. Electric, plumbing.
Did this total remodel job mostly by
myself.
Self taught welder. I made a 5000# lawnroller from scrap metal.

I'm a farm boy. I grew up on a dairy. My real hobby are tractors. I have 5.
Newest is this new 2019 Kubota.

Please post your hobbies and some the things you built in your spare time.

When younger I restored cars. Favorite was 1962 Jaguar XKE.

Please share your hobbies. Maybe we can be friends.
God bless and have a great day.
