Thought I got a deal

I saw a add for a CO2 tank for 10.00 a couple miles away. I bought it. I was going to use it as a spare tank for, argon CO2 mix for my mig welder. after looking the tank over I am wondering if I can even get it filled being aluminum. The tank has male threads, my mig tank has female threads. I can get an adapter. Will an aluminum co2 tank stand the pressure needed to fill with mig mix? If nothing else I can get the tank filled with CO2, and use it for airing up tires. Stan

If it's a real CO2 tank it's low pressure so no you can't. They do make aluminum high pressure tanks tho, could be for oxygen with male threads. If so it can be converted to mix. If you are sure it was co2 then no you can't.

Good luck
Getting tanks filled that haven't passed a
Pressure tested.
CO2 like nitrogen is dry compared to air for air compressor.
As a kid my dad would use freon to air up tires when he wasn't close to compressor.
Back then R12 sold for about fifty cents a pound or less.

Check the manufacturing date,if it is older than July 1990 it is scrap. All aluminium cylinders built before then have been declared defective. The exception are ones built by Catalina. Your mix tank has a dip tube valve in it, CO2 draws vapor from the top, filling a co2 tank with any part argon may not be possible. (where I work the fill plant would not do it,just too much extra work for one tank). The tank would make a light weight air pig. And while I am rambling,CO2 tanks need to be recertified every 5 years.
