Rollomatic on new generation?

It was such a good feature, I am surprised that other manufacturers did not choose to offer something similar

I have one just like the one pictured. I have hilly ground and sometimes would prefer a WFE and just prefer the 'look' of a WFE, BUT, the manuverability of this narrow front tractor always wins me over. Very common tractor as Pete says.

Absolutely. Dad bought the first 2510 in the area, spring of 1966. He insisted on a ROM. But the tractor was shipped, and delivered to the farm with a wide front. Looking back with perfect hindsight, he should have kept it. But the dealer came out later and installed the ROM. I think it was used. I didn't realize until many years later that there was a regular and a heavy duty ROM. After Dad passed away, I was eventually able to obtain the tractor, and I put a wide front under it. That's when I learned he had a heavy duty ROM.

I had one narrow over the years and yes, getting to the end of a row, lift the plow and simultaneously stomp the appropriate brake while letting go of the steering wheel is in fact a fast U turn.....but that was the only thing I liked about it.

I thought they were about standard on the 'new generation' tractors. All I remember from my childhood had them.

Quickly checking through the JD online parts site the newest and largest tractor that it was available on is the 4440 mfg. from 78 - 82, see link section 80-15. Not available for a 4630, 4640 or 4840. Not available at all that I saw for the 50 series. Apparently somebody was thinking it was only for 2 poppers.

If one reads the part description one will determine that narrow frt axle was last offered on a 4040 not 4440. I still remember the lecture I received from dealership owner for ordering wrong parts 55 yrs ago due to my not reading parts description

Thanks for the clarification Jim, as I said I was only taking a
quick look. Edit....Looking closer other than the 4040, it looks like it was available on a 4230. I could have sworn I had seen a stock narrow front 4430, but maybe not. Looked again and it appears you could get a narrow front (2 tire) 4430 it just was not available with the ROM.

Sorry but I wasn't attempting to correct you as much as I was attempting to provide some more correct information. I'll add to what you stated 4430 tricycle frt axle was only available through serial # 027634

Now that there is a quite a rig! You would only have about two weeks a year where you could dare to take that to the field here.

In my neighborhood, if a NG tractor has a narrow front, it has rollomatic. I don't think I ever seen one locally with just a tricycle front.

Drive west an 1 1/2 hours you will find a good many. Almost all the tractors Hennessey Implement sold new were pedestal fronts and not rollomatics. Might have made them $50 cheaper when new. I worked on a one owner 1968 4020 he sold new that had an oil bath air cleaner. All the paint was original and matched so I have no idea how it happened but he must of got it a few dollars cheaper that way. Tom
