111 Lawn tractor

Perfect timing. My brother got my old JD 111 lawn tractor back in service last week. It had been down with no spark since late last summer. It now has been converted to electronic ignition and has a replacement carburetor. The grass is finally to the point of needing to be cut since it finally started to rain last week. I wish it had an hour meter. My dad cut grass with it for years and hes been gone since 2003. Some video of it's test run here.

Did you change the coil or add a conversion chip?

The conversion chips were real popular a few years ago, hard to find now. They sure worked good!

I never saw what he actually installed to replace the points. Initially he had attached a little plastic module on the side of the engine that was in around the $30 price range. They he found a good used engine that still had it's electronic ignition parts that would fit right onto mine. Thats what is in it now but I could'nt tell you much about what it looks like or how it works. But it sure works. Starts and runs better than it ever did.

Spent 11 years running one of those for our yard and various neighbors who needed help. Dad bought it brand new, still in the crate in Oct. 1982. Sold it not running because the parts were NLA for it in 95 or 96 with 4 flat tires and covered with dust and cob webs.

I think you can get the conversion little module for 8 bucks. They do work good. Never had a problem with them. Have one on my chainsaw.

Parts NLA? I've bought new axles for the transaxle, blades, belts, no problem for this one.

Remembered while I was typing that I didnt remember - It was a fuel pump. You could get a pump that would work
after modifying the shroud, and doing some plumbing, but Dad didnt want to do that. Remember this was back in the
90s, so parts werent as easy to find as they are now. Seems like there was something else the guy who bought it
couldnt find, but I know I dont recall that one.

You must have had a different model 111. This one is all gravity flow. No fuel pump needed for the 11 hp Briggs and Stratton.

Looked exactly like yours, but I guess there must have been differences, because I do recall something about the decks being different, but I dont really remember. I do remember it having a fuel pump mounted to the shroud, and the replacement had a bracket that you had to drill holes for to use the replacement pump.
