OT F600 Stiff Transmission

I have a Ford F600 truck. It has 76,000 miles on it. It sat, unused, for more thank ten years. The transmission works fine but is very stiff. I'm thinking the old transmission oil became hard and stiff. Would you agree? If so, HOW would you get the old stiff stuff out? Thanks for your ideas. kelly

Simple pull the drain plug out and let it flow for a day or 2. Then fill it up with diesel fuel and run it a little bit but don't drive it just let the gears splash the diesel around to clean it up. Then drain it and let it sit a day with the plug out then fill with new gear oil like the 85W-140

i have a F 7000 truck. the owners manual calls for 50wt motor oil in transmission. i believe it has a clark 5 speed transmission.

My 68 C30 had the same problem. When it was like 20 degrees out it would almost stall the engine when you let the clutch out in neutral. I drained out enough to pump in about 1 pint of Siloo motor flush and drove it around about 2weeks. All the gunk must have come out on the first try, cuz I drained it again 6 months later and it was still clean. But I think kerosene or diesel would have done the same thing.

Hopefully you have checked to see if there is actually some lube in it or is full. If it is driveable I would recommend getting it good and warmed up before draining. Likely what has happened is that moisture condensated on the shift rails etc. while it was setting and rusted them up. If I was doing it I would pull the shifter and fill the trans through there to get more lube on the shifter mechanisms. But really thinking about it if the trans is at the proper level at 40 - 60 mph there should be plenty of lube slinging around in there to lube up everything.
