Twine in short supply

I need to say thank you to those posting on this forum. At some point there was a post about baling twine being in short supply. I took note and figured I would check it out. Sure enough, my AGCO dealer said it's not a rumor. Anyway, I usually go through about 48 spools a season and they still had enough to take care of me, so I took it all in one shot. From what I understand, the resin they make the twine from is in short supply.

Anyway - thanks for the heads-up.

I buy 9600 ft , 170# knot strength from my NH dealer for the small squares. Just paid 38.09 per box. He said they had plenty but I bought extra anyway.

I don't know from nothin' about baler twine. But I do remember that there was a run on it a couple of years ago due to a supposed shortage. At the time, they were blaming the shortage on a crop failure in Brazil of whatever plant is used to produce sisal. Prices jumped up for a while and then settled back down to an inflated price, but not nearly as high as during the panic.

Who knows?

I picked up some needed it anyway. I hope I bought enough for the season. Got a total of about 10-12 balls of the round baler string.

Had to wait a week to get netwrap from the local Co-op. Apparently it is in short supply also. They said their supply would be gone by the end of the day.

I read that post too so I asked my usual supplier and he said they pre bought in December so he hopes they are good to go, he had not heard of a shortage. He wont get a shipment til end of May and you can bet I will stock up if and when.

hey Dcarp,

I only do small square bales so I don't really know what netwrap is. Over the years I have bought a few round bales when I ran out of my small squares. Some of those round bales were wrapped with plastic mesh rather than plain old twine. Is that what netwrap is, or it that something completely different?

Thanks,

Tom in TN

Plastic mesh is what netwrap is. Can wrap a bale with it in about 25 seconds (3 wraps) from stop to start versus 1 minute 5 seconds with twine. Plus the bale sheds water much better with the netwrap versus the twine. The bales only weather in about 1-2 inches with the net. Heres a picture of some 2 year old netwrap bales.
