Hi db4600 and how did Russa save Oliver. IN the 2nd world war the USA sent a lot of
tractors and other farm machinery to the UK on the Lease Lend scheme were the UK
farmer paid for the machines and the UK goverment used the money to buy arms etc and
we only paid the debt off about 10 years ago. After the war we still bought tractors
etc but paid for them with Dollars till we run out of them in September 1949 and all
imports stopped and we did not get any more US built tractors. The Oliver importer
John Wallace of Glasgow had a large stock of Oliver tractors and he did not clear
them till 1953. A late farmer friend of mine bought a Oliver 80 row-crop in late
1952 when he started farming on his own. MJ.

Some years back I read an article that Russia ordered a large amount of the 28-44 model from the newly formed Oliver Farm Equipment company which helped to boost Olivers margin after the 29 crash. Similarly Russia was in need of agriculture mechanization in the same time frame and the purchase helped Russia or the Soviet block sustain their agriculture.
