The pond ice got a little thicker After -13 here on the place Tuesday morning.Fayetteville came in at -20. Ft Smith had an official of -6. This morning the valley matched ft Smith in the mid teens. The air was moving and mixed the the air for us. Cows ate a bunch of hay just to keep warm. Have a age and warm day.

WS, Grandpa told me to only chop a hole yea big. He didn't want a hog falling into the hole and drowning.
Not picnic weather here North of Spgfld either. North or South of the Boston mountains used to matter in winter. Not this time? gm

Had to chop some yesterday on a little pond as the pump is frozen. The ice was about 10" thick. First time I have ever cut ice with a chain saw. Was glad I used the saw.

(quoted from post at 13:28:08 02/17/21) Do you have to change any thing like the chain to cut ice. Thanks
Not really.
Only drain the chain oil if you're using the ice for food products. I've heard of putting cooking oil in it as well. But the water/ice should lube it ok.
I've cut up a moose with a chain saw too!

Hay thanks I have a old chain to do that. I'm thinking it will be easyer then chopping holes for them out by the creek.

Living here in Southern Illinois, I haven't had to chop a lot of ice for livestock, but the few times that I have done it, I always get chunks of ice down the neck of my shirt. There's a trick to chopping ice that I have yet to master.
