Vegatable oil

Susan just came to me 'complaining' that her can opener was squeaking.I said "oil it".She said"No,I dont want motor oil on our food".OK,use cooking oil.I got out an eye dropper and dropped some veg oil in the 'works'. Squeak gone. Happy wife.

pray vegetable oil (Pam) works as good as wd-40 in the home.

Much better that WD40 if you need a lubricant! My wife has been using olive oil to restore the finish on some woodwork.

Vegetable oil absorbs oxygen from the air, and becomes a gel. It might take a few weeks or months, but will almost certainly turn into a sticky mess.

My recommendation would be to clean off the vegetable oil, and lube the can opener with a lube oil approved for incidental food contact (hard to buy in small quantities, but you might be able to get a bit from a local butcher or baker) Second choice would be a USP mineral oil from the drugstore.
