How to seal around gas tank sending unit?

Folks silly question but having issues figuring it out. Have 1964 Ford 2000 4cyl gas tractor. Has same gas tank/sending unit setup as the 600 series (and jubilee/NAA). I replaced the gas tank few years ago and installed a sending unit. I used the rubber gasket that came with it but I got gas leaking out around sending unit? Any advise on how to properly install the sending unit as I could find no instructions or photos/video on topic? Also any tricks to decrease chance of leakage (gasket seal maker? Etc?)? Thanks for any advise.

Gasoil sealer,Cover both sides of the leaking gasket and put it back together,I advise to wear
disposable gloves. THis stuff is like anti seize, it will wear off, but hard to wash off.

I have some gasoline valve grease, probably the same thing. a little of that stuff goes a long way. Stan

What kind of gasoila sealer? Blue? Red? Green? Gray? Reason I ask they all seem to be good thread sealer for gas but red is hard seal and others non-hardening, green says for gaskets?

Haven’t had one off a Ford, so I don’t know how their tanks are made. If the screw holes are blind and don’t go through into the tank, make sure the
screws are short enough to tighten down on the gasket.

Yes but which one? There are a number of gasoila thread sealants. Some hard setting, non-hardening, thread sealers, thread and gasket sealers, different colors, etc. Keep in mind my sending does NOT have screws, it has a locking ring that twists
on to secure with gasket underneath.

Does it take an o-ring like cars and trucks do ? And if so maybe a thicker o-ring or something is half rusted out. Never worked on a ford gas tank.

That gasket is as you know fairly thick and wide, and if it is in good condition it shouldn't need any additional sealant. I know that you checked it for pliability when you had it off, but in order to seal it needs to be pliable and also clean. The surfaces need to be able to slip a little on the gasket so that it won't drag sideways and ripple. If it has lost its pliability or either surface is rough and you don't want to wait for a new one to come you can overcome it with some goop.
