I asked about this mesh back in the spring, since im
done with work, i thought why bring the trailer near the garage, so i took the gates off brought them in and started prepping them for new steel, i ordered it today.

Dont know why pics never post in order?

Do the mesh ramps stand upright when in use? I see 2 flat iron pieces that must hold them upright. I pulled a work trailer that had a mesh tail gate and I noticed one day how hard it pulled but I was able to lay it flat on the bed when empty and made a world of difference. It might be open mesh but still has a lot of wind resistance at 65 mph.

Yes the flat steel you see hooks to a pin on the ramp, and holds them up, you put a lynch or hair pin threw the part on the ramp to lock it.

Pulled a 5x8 with one of those gates on a hunting trip once and yes at highway speeds there is a lot of wind resistance

Yes, the trailer is a 1998 pequa, i ordered the two pieces i need cut to size, $190 for both.

You probably dont need a 16’ tandem😂, i have a 5x10 i haul my atv on, mesh is a little better on that one.

Yes that is expanded metal and you may want the flattened version as the other is very sharp like a cheese grater, it will lop skin off like it's nothing. We typically used much heavier materials in our work, (prisons), but things like tool cages and the like, in lesser secure areas in these buildings, this material and similar variations were popular.

McNichols was one of the suppliers I used often over the years.

The flattened stuff isn't nearly as strong as the cheese grater style. The flattened stuff is decorative.

The stuff is pretty poor material for a ramp gate regardless. It's WORSE than a solid sheet as far as aerodynamics. My little single axle 6x12 pulls harder with the ramps up than my 7x14 tandem enclosed utility trailer does.
