Son's well suffered a gradual loss of pressure, and then seemed to be running all the time. Electrical bill shot up. Well driller pulled pump and replaced it. Notice the cracks around the top of housing where pipe attaches. Never seen anything like that. Assume torque and metal fatigue. What you say?

If those are deep pipe wrench marks around the edge then someone did some serious tightening.

Never saw that, but mine had several pumps inside break and stop pumping, I think 3 or 4 out of 7 were working. Same thing, gradual pressure drop and electric Bill went crazy. Figured it ran for 2 months straight before I figured it out.

It sure looks like over tightening to me. I can remember a few months ago on the most recent well pump job that I worked on as we were winding the adapter into the pump housing, thinking "how close is this housing to cracking?"
