Massey Ferguson 1100 top link stuck

I have a Massey Ferguson 1100 tractor that had a top link problem. The lift arms move freely up and down, but the to link is stuck in the half way position. It used to move freely up and down. I do not know if something changed. I have tried putting PB Blast and WD-40 as well as Kroil on it but it doesn't budge. I tried hitting with a hammer and applying pressure with a pry bar. Nothing send to work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm not able to use all of my implements because the top link won't lower to the ground. This happens even with heavy implants. The just hang off of the ground.

If you can get it off the tractor. Set it in a coffee can with some diesel fuel in, enough to cover the ball. Let soak for 3-4 days, should get it so you can move it with a bar and hammer. If not let soak some more. The other choice is heat till red then dunk in pail of water till cool then will move with bar by hand probably. I would prefer to not use the last method if I could help it.

I have heard of guys throwing throwing them in a stock tank for a week. They say the fine field dust gets in there and locks up the threads and the water loosens it up. I don’t know how well it will work since you already tried penetrating oil, which would repel the water from soaking in. No experience with this suggestion, your mileage me vary.

The issue is not that it won't turn. It turns freely. The problem is that the joint where it is connected to the tractor won't move up or down.

So to understand your problem clearly, the 3 point rear hitch has three arms that connect to the implement. The
lower two I generally refer to as the ..tugs.. and the upper link in the center is generally referred to as the top
link. You are saying that the point the top link connects to the tractor is froze up or rusted so solid that it will not
let a heavy implement lower? It seems more believable that you saying what is referred to as the rockshaft that
has vertical links to the lower ..tugs.. is sticking or won’t lower properly? Or what type of system do you have to
limit side sway of the ..tugs..? If they are the side bar type or chains are you sure you don’t have some geometry
wrong as far as the attachment point of the swivel to the tractor? That can limit the stroke of the 3 point if they
are binding.

The threads on one of mine was rusted tight when I got it. Hang it up and down and spray a little penetrate on it. Then tap around it with hammer. Then penetrate, then hammer. Repeat, repeat. Then clamp
in vice and get a 1" bar through eyelet. Once you get the slightest movement it will go fast from there. Once you get it out take the wire wheel to threads. Then lube it with never seize and put it back
together. Some have a lock nut on them. If yours moved recently it can't be rusted to bad.

1100 Massey is a bit more complicated than a ball. The tractor end of the top link is on a pivot with a cam in the middle of it. The cam rides on a feeler for the draft control.

The problem is not the top link itself. Both ends move and turn freely. It is the joint where the top link connects to the tractor. It worked a month ago and now doesn't move.

You are saying the parts within the red circle in this parts catalog drawing are frozen and preventing implements from dropping? If so, you likely need to take it apart, free the pieces and clean them.

If that top link linkage is all that is holding implements up, I would think a heavy implement would bend or break something before it held the implement up. It would seem like there must be more than just the top link hanging up. Just my thoughts.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. I will disassemble it and clean it. You are correct the top link bar did bend and the joint eventually broke. Not sure how it ceased because it was working freely before. Do you know where these parts can be ordered?

What is part number 31 called? I need that joint that pivots. Can you tell me the name of that part or the part number?
