OT New Holland 6635

Looking at 6635, cab, 4wd, loader, ac/heat, showing 3800 hours. Guy
says it’s hard to get the shuttle in forward, but works just fine in
reverse. I’ve read where the 35 series was less than desirable. Any
input? Seems priced right. Looks like a pretty good looking tractor.

Very fiat tractor in blue paint if I recall correctly. My buddy owned one for a year, it went along down the road asap. Sort of strange at the TL series that is nearly identical supposed to be pretty good with the power shuttle.

I have one and use it constantly. Not hard to get parts from dealer but no aftermarket. Only problem i had was air conditioning and i broke both axle shafts thinking I had a dozer. Very handy tractor. Its my go to

if its a manual shuttle not a power shuttle with 3800 hrs I would be worried it needs a clutch , i sold a 2000 tn 75 f that had those hrs on it and it was starting to act like you describe

Don't think any inherently wrong with 35 / TL/ TLA / JXU / Farmall U tractors.

Same clutch for dry clutch shuttle, so if it's not going into forward easy as reverse, might be issues there.

Had a customer with 2 TN75s here in the U.K. the tractor was around 2000. Had trouble with the shuttle. It was the switch.......expensive!

I had a customers 6635 that sat in my shop for 13 months due to lack of parts. It threw a rod through the block at 1800 Hours. Turbo engine with no piston cooling jets, galded a piston and broke a connecting rod.I found 6 of these tractors in salvage yards across the country and they all had rods hanging out of the side of the block. The rebuilder that rebuilds New Hollands factory rebuilds told me, Sir that is one engine that New Holland will not rebuild. New Holland was no help ,they couldn't get an engine, a block or much of anything and what they did get was 4 prices. I finally found a used block and some other used parts in a salvage yard and pieced it back together. It took 7 weeks to get a set of piston rings from New Holland. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Talked with a NH dealer and they said parts were still readily available. Also told me that more than likely the stuff shuttle was a synchronizer going bad and that it would have to be split. Said they had done several. Tractor is priced at 13900 which made it very appealing, but the dealer told me the synchro was around $800 from NH and if they did it the labor would be in the range $4k. My guess is it would pay to do the clutch while it’s apart, so by the time you add all of that up you’re back up we’ll over $20k. I can find 40 series Fords cheaper than that. Plus, now the guy on Facebook that has it for sale won’t respond. I just live those types. Appreciate the input guys, but looks like I’m passing on this one, even if I didn’t want too...lol

I might've replied to one of your other posts about this. But I would love to hear more about those rear axles. We have a 6635 and in the fall broke something in the right rear axle. Havent torn it apart to find whats wrong, looking for some guidance before we do. Thanks

Farmer Abe welcome to YT! You replied to nearly the last post Kenny kabot posted here in Fall of 2020. In other words unless he reads and does not post you probably wont hear anything from him. A little more direct approach would be to send him an email. I assume you viewed the post on ..Modern View.. Click ..Classic View.. in the red box at the top, hopefully when viewing there you will see a box in the lower right of his reply to send an email. I agree with getting the parts diagram to possibly help you see what your problem is. The C NHI parts sight is down today they must be updating. Otherwise I would try to see if your tractor is considered to be in their group and post a link to the online parts page. If you are thinking about attempting the repair yourself I would suggest buying a repair manual for your tractor. Best of luck!
