The guy buying the hay equipment is
looking at rakes. He is asking my
opinion. I told him the 4 wheel rake will
do just fine. But he likes the big double
rake. Any thoughts? I like my NH 56. He
doesn't want a side delivery ground
driven rake. I really love my NH
254....teds and rakes. Fluffy windrows.

I told him get the single, if he wants
bigger windrows rake 2 together.

for a small square baler the 4 wheel is fine,, if he wants to someday up grade to a round baler I am 100% on the double rake style,, if you have a 12' or under swather anyway
cnt

I sure do like my V rake, but there are some fields around here so small that it just will not fit so my side delivery comes out and that's why I still have both. The V rake cuts raking time in half for us. Just my thoughts. Keith

I would vote for the V rake in my operation, only bale round bales and get a more uniform and wide windrow, makes a more even roll! When i used to bale square bales i wanted a single rake like my 256 NH rollabar so that i could control the size of the windrow. Just my thoughts!!

I had one of the 4 wheel rakes in your lower picture till I let a guy barrow it and I never got it back. They work real well and sort of wish I still had it

I bought a Vee rake once then converted it to rake 2 single windrows at a time so every round had 2 single windrows. Much faster drying and easy to do that way. Also cut the raking time in half. I now also have a front fold vee wheel rake. I would not want anyother rake simple and rakes better than to old steel wheeled side delivery ones I grew up with. And yes we still have the 3or4 Deere and 1or 2 IH rakes. some for parts and some still are used sometimes.

We have both! We have 2 deo-20 3pt bar rakes.. and a set of NH 216 V, 2 to 1 rake... We use both.. in the last few years it seems like we need to turn windrows to get them dry, But rolling 2 into one doesn't work.. so we used the side delivery rake and just flip the windrow so the bottom is then on the top and its on dry ground... Then we go in later and roll 2-1 when we have some dew on it, about 4-18 hrs ahead of the Baler..
