Shining Up The Case

I did a little clean up on the original paint on the 730 Case last week. Its right about 50 years this month since I first drove that tractor for my uncle working summerfallow. The old Case has plenty of battle scars but the original paint is mostly there and cleans up pretty nice with some rubbing compound and elbow grease. It has been mostly stored indoors when its not being used.

Case 730

In my teens, we started farming 350 acres that was 15 miles away. Before taking the 830 that way, I would wash it and wax the hood and fenders. There were no other Cases in the area where the ground was and I wanted to give a good impression.

Very nice. Love the sound near the end of the video. Does the blade stay with the tractor all the time? I think I remember that it doesn't have power steering. The 830 that Dad had did have power steering and it would be 58 years old now. Last I knew it was still in use near Wales, North Dakota.

Always like your videos and stories. Went back and caught up on a couple I missed. Is the neighbor marketing the Bison. Or just increasing his herd size ?

There are actually less bison in the pasture this year. They were a bit overstocked last year and he had to feed bales and pellets. He has more of them over at his home farm.

You are right Ron, this is the heaviest steering tractor ever with the weight of the blade and a missing bushing on the bottom of the steering column. I should have got some video of the front axle in road gear. If I don't hold the wheel just right it will shimmy like crazy. Going to fix that one day. The push bar stays on but I leave the blade outside. Gives me another three feet of room in the shed and I can't afford to waste any.

Always enjoy your posts and videos, thankyou.

I appreciate your comment in the video about they are only original once.

Could the designers have imagined their machines still earning their keep and paint still looking this good 60 years later?

Sure wasn't anything 60 years old when these were built that was still operating and wearing its original colors.

Here is a 930 comfort king 6 speed I get to run for my family. Always stored inside and bet it would shine up pretty good too.

I really like those 930 comfort kings. I used to run one for a neighbour back in the early seventies just like the one in your photo. The sound of that big slow turning six cylinder diesel working summerfallow was great. In 1976 we got one of our own. A 68 model.
