Looking at purchasing either a 5610 or 6610 ford cab tractor with a loader going to do a little of everything with it . Is there anything I should watch out for, are they dependable? Do they generally have trouble with the ac? Any information would be appreciated. I know you can not truly evaluate a tractor without more specifics, basically just want to know if in general is this is a good model, or should I look for something else. Thanks

I have a 6610 open station, no dual power and is a solid tractor.

The injector pump does need to be maintained regularly.

I have a Ford 6610 8x4 transmission, open station with two remotes and loader. Its a good tractor, our uses antifreeze. Our pulls a 9 ft haybine and 8ft brush hog. When looking at the tractor, pull the radiator cap when cold and see if you see bubbles in the radiator, if so the block gone porous or the head gasket is gone. The 777b loader is nice. The tractor with no weight in the rear will lift at 2000 pounds.

I just add distilled water in the summer and change it out with green antifreeze from tractor supply. Were thinking it the head and it also has blow by. It has good compression. Theres also oil in radiator and it burn 1/2 quart oil ever 50 plus hours. It also has a oil cooler in the radiator it seems.

I do not know if the anti cavitation additive does anything on those, but better safe than sorry. Mine is fairly low hours (3000) and does not use any oil or anti freeze.

The hour meter rolled over once at least. The issues that Ive seen with our tells me someone was in there before us. Some one changed out a syncro. Usually if someone is selling a used tractor and they say it has low hours, to me the tach rollover once. When I bought the tractor for the backhoe, the guy said it had low hour. The tach is dead, the 3pt (doesnt go up or down) and the pto (just keeps spinning) doesnt work right. Tell me its a low houred tractor.

I have seen some tractors in my area that are pre 90s. Theres one guy in town thats sell a Ford 545 with low hours (500 on the tach), its a tuff sell because it doesnt have pto and it seems to have the 4x4 transmission.

(quoted from post at 20:38:17 07/18/20) Have you kept additive in the coolant?

I run HyGuard in mine and keep it tested.

Did you mean Cool-gard? Only Hy-gard I'm aware of is hyd oil.

I own a Ford 6700 that I bought yrs ago that had a crate engine installed due to cavitation of cylinder bore in original engine

Don't know about the cabs, but we have ran two 6610S models since new. One has a loader with bucket, hay spear, and grapple and has seen lots of abuse; the other is plain and pulls a 15' bat wing, a 24' drag, and runs a 9' disk hay cutter. They are very plain a simple and have been pretty much bullet proof for 25+ years with many different operators who were mostly low pay grade...

I have a 90 model 6610 Series II 2wd with cab, 8x4 trans with dual power, 4 hydraulic remotes with 5000 hrs.
The tractor is use primarily for pulling a round baler and 15 ft batwing mower, it's been a good tractor with only a few minor issues.
5610 and 6610 are the same chassis other than the engines, 5610 has 256 ci engine making 62 pto hp
6610 has 268 ci engine making 72 pto hp
With the added weight of the cap plus AC system requirements the extra hp of the 6610 is beneficial
A few things to note: 81/85 models had older style integral power steering.
86/up models had hydrostatic power steering which is more desirable in my book, this is also around the time the improved Q cab was introduced.
Any 10 series tractor I purchase will be a Series II

Issues we've had in the past 10 years of owning this tractor
The fine fins on the radiator become easily plugged, regular cleaning is a most to prevent over heating.
Cab models have the shifter located on the right side of the cab, we've had to replace the bushings in the bottom of the shifter.
The AC system has a small leak that requires a can or 2 of freon be added each year, this year the AC quit while baling hay, compressor won't kick in, haven't taken the time to look into it yet.
I'd rather have a 10 series than any of the newer stuff.
