I tried to get some better pictures today. The bearing is on the main shaft of the generator and the gearbox mounts on the end of the shaft. The bearing is out and the shaft will move up and down quite a bit. He said they were using it and when they shut it down they saw that the bearing was out. Did that do any damage inside?? Chris

The gearbox has to come off to get to the bearing, Is anything going to fall out and disappear forever when I split the gearbox?? Wish I had a parts breakdown to see what's inside before taking it apart. Haven't found anything online yet.
 
Nothing yet on the unit. The thing I don't like. Is the gap between the gear box.And the gen section.It is like they tried to take it apart.Removed the gear box mounting bolts and gave up. I have a call in to a man that used to rebuild those units. And I am going out in the morning to look at a few around here.I don't give up easy.
 
I just checked the Onan PTO units.Gear box made by APEX CORP and VON RUDEN CORP. Which I believe made the ones used By Katolight.They show no gap there just. Two sections bolted together.So I think some one tried to get them apart and gave up.
 
There is five ball bearings that are spring loaded, and they go in all directions. Just kidding. I have had that happen on something else. Stan
 
I just found that model unit on line. Some one has had it apart. But then gave up on fixing it.What you are seeing in that gap. Is a spacer plate to give the required gap.If you look up that unit on line. You will find several for sale. With a good selection of photos
 
A fellow I worked with for a while would not take any thing apart because he was always afraid that there would be a 9 foot spring inside to try and put back.
 
Is that company still around ? If so i'd call them and see if they have any service info for it.
