Vietnam War Veterans Day

Nor did I, Stan. I am of that era and my USAR time was 1966 to 1972. I am not a veteran as to benefits but qualify to join the American Legion. I did for a short time. So many young men lost becasue of politicians. I support the local Vietnam Veterans whenever they have a fund raiser. My salute to all.

thank you ALL for your service hope you all have found peace my brother still has a hard time thank you all

I was there in 66, 67. USAF SAC RECONACANCE SQUADRON. We flew U2s and Drones. Ben HOA and Danang. I was a airframe repairman. We rebuilt a couple of Drones that you would have thought would never fly again! Lost a good friend over there. God Bless all that made it back and the ones that didn't.

I am a Vietnam Veteran. Spent a year at PhuLam among other places (1970-71) but I wasn't aware that there was a Vietnam Veterans day.

I guess it is nice to have a day. No one knows about.I spoke with several Vietnam vets around town. None of them know anything about it.

USN.. 61 - 66. 2 cruises (DD830) to WESPAC 63 & 65. In 65 we fired the 5" for 30 days, every night then reload during the day. Hardest work i've ever done. We were fireing at targets 7 mi away. AF spotter in light plane. Came back to Long Beach in Feb. 66 and ship went into yards. Yard people said that our guns were the only ones they had ever seen that were worn out (Rifleing). I was extended 6 mo. for that cruise. I feel that I was very fortunate to have gotten seperated when I did. KB

Nice to hear about that. We got a letter from a Captain saying he fired off a whole ready service load without a glitch. (Hopefully, he wasn't the only one.) We heard that the barrel got so hot, the paint melted off and left a streak on the deck. There would be a problem if there was a misfire with a hot barrel. If misfire eject and a clearing charge didn't work, it was pump water down the barrel to cool and stand clear.

These guys could lay down a barrage in front of the marines while rolling and pitching at sea miles away. Since then even better computers, gyros, and radar were developed. Over the years we got an "E" with 5 Stars.

Hi Nik, I was a maintenance crew leader when I got there we just had UH1B's then about amy / June 65 we started getting D models we had lots of fun with the D's at first but finally got a lot of the bugs worked out the good old "B" models were great helicopters. I had a really great Maintenance officer Mr Patton we worked together great I was really sad to read he passed a number of years ago. I don't know if it was still there when you were there but there was a hutch right next to the control tower that's where I spent most of my year. Thanks for your service also Nik glad you made out and are doing good

As a FAC I had the pleasure of calling fire from the New Jersey in Jan of 68 is support of ground troops, quite a rig. Out there bobbing around in the water and being able to put repeat fire and corrections called, right on target. Stand Proud pal! Larry

My neighbor to the north of me, served in that time frame with the 4th Engineers, Steve Conners. I served in the that area too, 3/8 Inf Dak To area, 67-68. Larry

Sir, I am proud of being a part of what helped the ground troops out. The ship would fire 25 miles with pin point accuracy. Amazing, with WW 2 technology. Thank you for your service, Dick

There's no such a thing as a (classified) Viet nam era vet.You might have been in the arm forces during the war which ended in 1973, that was the last year that the last combat unit was there.

If that is true then tell that to the V.A. I am in fact classified as a Vietnam vet but was in in 1974 and had the war pin to prove it so your full of B.S.
