Been a year since I built our first mono slope barn, many
people thought it would not pay off in Louisiana because of
relatively mild temperatures, those same people may not have
factored in rain and manurial value. Was it expensive? Yes,
will it pay off? I think so, backgrounded calves have gained
around 15% more in the barn than on drylot, I don?t have to
rely on past figures to calculate this because I have had two
barns full if calves and seven pens of drylot calves in the time
frame, took the barn calves to a higher weight because of how
I planned to sell them. I built a 196 x 48 barn, I plan to build
another one this year that is slightly longer and easier
to clean, have to add crop land now to utilize manure, a calf
equals an acres worth.
