Brother just called and told me he lost the keys to his 2008 Ford f350. He does not have spare set so he called local ford dealer and they said Ford only keeps record for 10 years. Told him he would have to change ignition and door locks. He did not buy the truck new but found name of selling dealer in op manual. He is going to call them. Any other thoughts?

If truck not locked, can you pull door lock and take to locksmith?

I do not know if 2008 has smart key for ignition.

Get two sets then

That era of superduty keeps topping the most stolen lists due to how easy they are to get into via the plastic around the door paddles, YouTube will help you get in the doors. Take lock to locksmith. Also if it?s like mine, don?t even need a key in the ignition now to turn it on and start it.

Thanks guys truck is unlocked and sitting at his place. He will pull doorlock and call locksmith. Says he never pulls keys but did for some reason and went and checked cows (calving time) when he went to use truck no keys gotta love it

Any decent locksmith can cut the keys,I would not pull the lock.Trying to save money will cost you more when you break the lock.

I once lost my only car key and guessed it was when I went in the sheep barn to check on a new born lamb. Well, I found it a year later. It had been spread onto the garden in a load of manure and I tilled it back up. By that time, the car had got rear ended and totaled. But I did eventually find it. Oh yeah. And we hauled about 30 loads out of the barn, spread over 7 acres and only one load went on the garden. What were the odds? Not 30 to 1.

You can't pull the ignition lock without the key unless you drill it. There is a locking pin on the lock cylinder that only can be released when the ignition is in the "ON" position. Got to either pick the lock or use the key.

I just had a key made for my 2006 Silverado at the General Motors dealer. They made it from the vin number. It cost $15.00. I needed the original Bill of Sale and current registration card and a personal ID before they would do it.

As in other threads on here that is why I tell folks to have at least three keys or FOBs to get into ,and or, drive your vehicle. Old school is maybe two bucks for a key and new stuff is a crazy 25 bucks each on Ebay? At least my Fords have the drivers door keypad. Has saved my buns more than a few times. My little rant.

I would call a reputable (high volume) locksmith, with your title or proof of ownership and they can probably get the key code by vin. As you found out, Ford only keeps the last 10 years, that doesn't mean the information might be gone forever.

When new, your truck would have come with 2 little white tags on key rings, the tag has a bar code and some digits that decipher the key code. Those tags were were either left in the glove box, owners manual/packet or simply left on the key ring when new, so you might check if you can find it. The tag is white, thin plastic and about 1in x 1in in size. A locksmith along with Ford should be able to cut a key using the tag.

I had the Jeep dealer cut me a new key for a 96 Cherokee last year. Can't imagine Ford couldn't cut a 12 year old truck a new key with the VIN.

Call another dealer, Ford should still have the key code. GM can supply key codes back to 1990. He will need to buy at least 2 keys, then someone with a scanner will have to do a 30 minute relearn on the VATS system. Ford key learns are a pain in the wallet. Make sure he is sitting down when he prices keys.

x2. If the dealer parts dept can make a key, take registration and I.D. They'll have him sign a statement that he owns the vehicle.
