Going to have trailer brakes

Last year toward the end of my mowing season, my brakes just wore out. No more parts are available, for my old axle. I picked up a 7000 lb axle today, hubs, and drums separate. I found the 6000lb and 7000lb axle spindles are the same. I have a 6 lug hub, and can use my same rims, with a 7k axle. I will replace the other axle as time permits. At least I will have one axle with brakes. Stan

I replaced an axle under my 14,000 trailer a few years ago when I noticed that somehow it got bent?????? It wasn't a tough job.

Stan,
Amazon link 6 lug hubs.
In Indiana any trailer over 3000# is required to have electric brakes.
Both axles are required to have brakes too and must have a battery back up with brake away switch. I'm surprised that California doesn't require brakes on both axles.

I would plan to do both at the same time and be done with it. Should not take much longer to do both at once than one at a time ? Flip the trailer over and up on blocks so it is easy to access.

Around here the police would rather hide behind a bush and catch speeders. The California Highway Patrol, is a different story. They are the ones who get serious about safety. They mostly patrol the freeways. I have a battery backup, which is required. Stan
