Since I stopped my mowing around September. I have gained 10 pounds, and going up. I sure notice the difference. When I start working again around March. I will work it off. I know the problem, it's that dang scales in the bath room. It may be defective. That's the problem. Stan

When I was still haying I gained weight every winter and lost it in the summer. Now I just get heavier. I'm about 205 now. The biggest I have ever been. Doesnt help that my mom lives with me and has to have ice cream in the freezer all the time. I told the doc she needs to cut back. He said it's good for her but i dont think he knows how much sugar she eats. I'm afraid she wont be able to move if she keeps it up.

My wife bought me a like new snowmobile suit at a garage sale about 25 years ago. Don't remember the size but it was way to big for me, fast forward to last winter and if I can get it zipped I can't breath very well.. Had the coat on today for a couple hours, don't fit any better than last year. Don't know what happened.

Stan,
I've lost weight, 172, and didn't diet. Just lost appetite, lost strength, sucking for air just walking up stairs. Fast forward Dr found I have a vitamin B12 and D3 deficiency. I've been eating junk food, ice cream even nuts in an attempt to get energy back.

No problem here. I can still wear the snowmobile suit I bought about 1980. Or for that matter the clothes I wore in high school. Just lucky I guess.

I used to be that way. Then I got a bad case of pneumonia.Almost killed me. Was down 8 weeks.Took a year to fully recover. Now I seen to gain a pound(or two) a year.

When I was a kid I wore 'husky' sized jeans. Now I wear fatarse sized jeans. I think my problem is that I just enjoy mastication too much.

One possible answer to your question goes back long before farming and pie-baking. It's normal for mammals to prepare for Winter, whether they hibernate or push through the colder months. Food is more scarce. So it's a natural thing for your body to want to put on weight during the colder months.

Maybe it has a lot to do with activity level as well. Maybe has to do with stress levels. Maybe even getting cabin fever. Whatever it is, if the weight put on ends up getting worked off, then shouldn't be anything to worry too much about.

As for the folks with cattle that work straight through Winter, they may actually work harder than in Summer and have to eat more. So Bruce, don't worry about an extra slice now and then.

Normally doing some irrigated hay production here during summer down under which is now. Due to severe drought last three years there is no irrigation water so very little hay. It has been extremely hot so air-conditioning and movies add on christmas and I am getting more cuddly. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

I remember my first driver's lic. had 165 for weight and the 28 inch waist on blue jeans fit perfect for several years. Then I had a compound fracture of a leg, 8 days in the hospital, two more weeks in bed, and 17 weeks off work, plus ended up marrying one of my nurses and she fed me pretty good. Seemed to weigh about 210 until I retired seven years ago and now I'm pushing 235. Summer will knock some of it off.

The bathroom scales are colluding with the knives, forks, and spoons.

It's the inactivity of the winter months. I would think all the energy used by shivering would help melt the pounds but it doesn't seem to work.

Old friend of mine said "My clothes just shrink up in the closet".
I got up to 230 after a long illness back in the 80's.
Down to 194 now and want to get to 175.
I just cut back on my eating.

Started getting sick on 12-20. Ended up with the flue, pneumonia and a UTI. Lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks. First time I ever lost weight over the holidays.

(quoted from post at 06:20:11 01/19/20) Not sure I could wear anything from the 1980- or
1990s except maybe a hat. Somehow even my feet
are bigger.

Wife: Look honey it still fits.

Husband: It's a scarf.

Enjoying mastication is a good thing!

I tend to gulp everything down way too fast. That causes me to eat more because I keep eating until my brain catches up enough to say STOP!

Guess I?m lucky, was at the doc on Friday, he should me on his computer my stats for the last 15yrs. Only 2lbs difference 157-159. Only spike was when I had my back surgery and my weight went to 162. Actually went down to 155 when I had the heart attack, all that rabbit food I promised to eat.

When I raced motorcycles on 1/4 & 1/2 mile dirt tracks, up to age 20, I was about 125, got married at 25, weighed 137, got up to 175 a few years ago (63 now). Then between working 50 hours a week and medications maybe killing my appetite, I was at 163 at my Dr visit in December. Just don't pig out like I used to.

"It's normal for mammals to prepare for Winter, whether they hibernate or push through the colder months. Food is more scarce. So it's a natural thing for your body to want to put on weight during the colder
months." Ok, I'll go with that.---You see Doc it's like this---
