Update on trailer ramps

Well I got lucky on the ramps I didn't have to do anything to them. Come to find out I had three tires with less than twenty lbs of air pressure after airing them up to seventy lbs the ramp feet came two inches off the ground after loading my tractor they came back up about a inch and a half off the ground I'm going to add spring lift assist on each one there a little heavy and long but it has a nice long transition into the trailer I can load my tractor with a brush hog on without it coming into contact with the ground while loading .I can load a car or a pickup without bottoming out I think there going to work just fine thanks for all the replys and comments. Be very careful loading cars and trucks especially on those because with the heavy end in front they could still tip up when loading and come up under the vehicle. Won't take much forward motion to get those coming up. With those legs back like that they will be very susceptible to that.

I always set truck brakes when loading, if real heavy have someone step on brake pedal so trailer brakes lock too.

Yes, but they will still rock some and with his legs back as they are that could cause problems. I'm just saying it so he is careful, wouldn't want to see him damage something or get hurt is all.

Ok, just be careful. I've built ramps like that before I knew better and had trouble with them. Hate to see you get in trouble.

I had a 25 foot corn pro trailer with ramps like that. I was loading a jd 4440 with a power shift tranny. just as the tractor cleared the ramps they flipped up. The back of the trailer went to the ground and the back of my pickup went 3 foot into the air. Just so happened that my wife didn?t go with me that day,or i would probably still be hearing about it. My truck and trailer brakes were both locked.i bought a trailer with a hydraulic tail after that.

It happened because they were backed up to a hill to get the ramps up for a more level load. That tipped the ramps so the legs were behind the pivot point and then when the truck moved they tipped up. When everything is perfect, the ground is level and dry, the OP's ramps will likely work too. It's when things are less than perfect like on slippery grass or mud or uneven ground that things will be dangerous.

I would have forgot about the legs on the ramps and put 2 swing up screw jacks on both back corners of the trailer.--------------------Loren

I like my improved knees.

Old knee woul cause ramps to kick up.
Also like the spring assist.

I never liked the jacks as they are a lot of effort and so frequently don't get used. They also stick out from the side and get torn off. I did do quite a few drop legs off the main rails behind the wheels that were just a tube with another that slides inside and a pin to hold them with several holes to get the correct height. With those you do have to keep them far enough up so pressure releases tho. Otherwise they worked great.
