Seeking some Kowledge?

This past month I have been in the All state tractor parts book. Looking up parts for a 1974 I.H. 674 tractor Diesel 239 engine. Engine rebuilding kit reads: Cylinder kit, Head gasket set, Conversion set & crank seal. Now reading this I am still trying to understand this one line Conversion set? What is it? Right now I have a bare engine block that needs every thing. Cylinder kit would that means it comes with the wet sleeves to? I understand the rest of the stuff okay. So far the parts list is growing for they engine. Every thing new and back to stock. I munch rather have it that way because than I know I have a good running Diesel for this every day working tractor I use. Thanks for your Knowledge on ordering help on tractor engine parts.Brent.

Some conversion kits mean oil pan gasket and timing case gaskets. BE AWARE that block lower seal area MIGHT have a different seal groove diameter, one of two O rings sizes. When I did my Hydro 84 D246 diesel both O rings were in the cylinder kits, one a bit thicker than the other.

Years ago many gasket makers (Fel-pro, McCord, Victor & others) would offer head sets, or full sets so you could buy just the upper stuff or a full gasket set for a particular engine. At some point in the 80's for SKU consolidation some of them switched to offer a head set and a conversion set. To get a complete set of gaskets then, you would buy the head set plus the conversion set to get all the gaskets available for that engine.
