30 inch row wheat

I was taking a few pictures of some local crops today and thought some might enjoy. I had never heard of planting wheat in 30 inch rows before but I talked to a custom cutter and he said that there was quite a bit of it here planted that way, flood irrigated in the furrows. Most corn is over your head and ready to tassel. Most local wheat is cut with Shelborn Headers and is yielding 150 to 160 BPA. A person can never get a handle on what season it is by looking at the crops as they will double crop with water melons, carrots, potatoes, radishes, alfalfa or what have you. They cut the alfalfa every 25 to 30 days and what I see of the quality, if those old Holstiens don,t produce they deserve to be hamburger. Hope you enjoy. Tom

I was reading that row crop planting of cereal grains is the wave of the future even with the greater spacing the planter does so much better job at planting then a drill does the yield is better

Never heard of 30" rows for wheat. Wonder where that might be? Pet peeve- guys post interesting pics of different crops or practices, with no clue as to where it is.

Don't want to get anybody upset. I just assumed after posting a thousand posts that everybody knew that I lived twenty five miles west of Phoenix in the winter time. Will be back to Michigan after the first part of June.

Arizona can grow a lot of crop if they have the water, and it looks fine for this summer, I just looked at the SRP reservoirs, and they're at good levels, but it was a rainy winter. We spend the winters 80 miles E of you in AJ.

Couldn?t find the wheat amongst the weeds if we tried 30 inch wide spacing on wheat rows. Don?t see how they can fit in enough seeds to make that yield. Just sounds odd. Most folk talk about narrowing up corn rows to increase yields, and they are widening out wheat?

So different in a dry location. Would be fun to experience after the years of mud around here. Actually be able to plant, or make hay when you want to.
