It is hard to believe nobody on here or the national "news" mentioned Tim Conway as Ensign Parker on McHale's Navy. I guess I am showing my age but we never missed an episode back in the early sixties! PT-73--memories. RIP-Tim---Tee

Glad to see someone remembers besides me. I heard several news reports about Conway being famous for the Carol Brunette show or the "Apple Dumpling Gang." NO mention of his gig on McHale's Navy where I knew him from. That show was good clean fun.
 
That was a great show. I was able to download the series from Youtube before they got so strict about things, so I watch an episode every now and then. We're also huge Borgnine fans. Sure don't make 'em like they used to, eh?
 
It was mentioned on at least one of the news reports I saw. But Conway is better known for his work on the Carol Burnett Show.
 
That and MASH were two of the best documentaries of the military ever made.

They were funny to everyone, but military people could see a lot of that actually happening.
 
Goose ...... Years ago I would have agreed with you regarding MASH. After watching re-runs, I find that there were just too many one-liners, put downs, and sarcastic remarks. Nothing wrong with any of those but there were just too many for me. Didn't seem very realistic. Too much of a good thing I guess, in my opinion anyways.
 
I spent 6 years Navy and 17 National Guard. I thought MASH did a very good job. Showing how crazy the military good get. I was not allowed to have radios in the motor pool. Didn't want us to give our position away. But we could crank up one of those 3600 rpm screamers.
Required to wear field around rotating equipment.

I always watched McHale's Navy
 
That is the first TV show where he got his start. Look at how many actors got a start on that show. Also Hogan's Heros. Carol show was just total insanity. Don't forget Rowan and Martin's laugh in.
 
episode I most remember is when they rescue a German submariner. Tim asks the guy if he can speak German, in the German language. Capt. replies " Of course he speaks German, you idiot! He is German.". "Ohh".
