plow day pictures

we hosted a TOYS plow day at our farm Saturday. usual attendance was down due to short notice- I postponed it from last week, and wasn't sure until 330 Friday that Friday's rain would mostly miss us. but with phone calls, we had some people that brought tractors, and some that came and drove my tractors. turned over about 18 acres, worst problems were 2 flat tires on plows, the front crankshaft seal on my 560D let go, and my H must have sucked a piece of rust into the gas tank outlet, so it got towed to the shop. great lunch with pizza and Linda's chili, etc etc. good fellowship and beautiful sunshine. for once, the green tractor was way outnumbered.

and today it is raining again with a high of 45.

Great pictures. Looks like everyone is enjoying themselves. And a great way to get your field plowed quickly.

Do, you insure your event for accidents? If so, how much does that cost and hot much hassle? Always wanted to host a plow day, but liability for accidents has always kept me from doing it.

Are you a member of any tractor clubs and does it do any events like a show or swap meet? Even gather at a members farm? If yes then likely the tractor clubs insurance would cover it but some have event only insurance so then no it would not be covered. Several years ago I did host a plow day but I did belong to 3 different clubs that did events that they had insurance for anything that was club related. And all 3 clubs were involved.

Dang Bill , I'm jealous! One of these years the weather will treat us right and we can get a plow day done in Central AL. Great pictures thanks for sharing em!

look close at the last picture. the depth wheel behind the Farmall is flat. and the furrow wheel on the JD plow is way soft, but it doesn't show when the plow is in the ground.
yes, the club provides insurance, fortunately, we have never had to use it.
the ruts we left last year chopping made for some interesting looking plowing. we have a big disk which smooths things out. I could have done more acres in less time with the 6 bottom plow and buster bar, but that is not the point.

what makes it all worthwhile is at the end of the days, when a couple men shake my hand and say "thanks for letting us come and plow". BINGO!

Looks like those men had a fun time.

I guess I am the odd ball. I well remember plowing everyday that you could get the plows into the ground before and after it was frozen. Spending 12-16 hours on a open station tractor with poor lighting. So I am plowed out for my life time. LOL

Still have to hook to the plows every few years to reshape some terraces. Usually cuss hooking them up and getting them set right.

Your club has the event only policy that is cheaper than an all inclusive policy. That works if you have a set meeting place and time that never changes. And is listed at beginning of insurance coverage year. Or one time only policies can be bought. Now a club that different members host the meeting and subjuct to change they are no good as the meeting at the club members home or bussiness is not covered.

Looks like fun. Forth picture, the black grille 200, wonder how many Traction Torque tires Goodyear sold. In the 60s we had two Ms and a Super C with them on, My Super C and Super M each had one good one when I bought them, still see them on a lot of old tractors. I still have a 13.6 x 38 leaning against the wall in my shop, they must of been good tires.

Thanks for sharing your plow day pictures. Great to see the men and the machines at work. I liked seeing the lay of the land around your place too.

I liker the variety...even if there are no AC. OK, how bout adding some orange? AC or DC, or other Case orange? Bring "em on!

here is a picture from 2012. WD45 and owner would have been here this year, except plow day was postponed last week b/c of rain, and he had to work this week. I have a Case DO that I have been fussing with for the last 4 years for plow day, but it still isn't running well enough, so back in the shed until next year. I did stick a 3pt plow on my Fordson this year to get a little color into the picture.
