NH 451 shear plate replacement

There should just be two replaceable ledger plates. One at each end of the cutterbar. The outer one is not too bad as you can remove the outer shoe for easier access. You may have to make a jig to clamp in your vise for better riveting action. The outer shoe might have shims between it and the cutterbar where the ledger plate was set correctly with the knife. The inner one is harder to get at and more time consuming to remove the inner shoe for easier access. If you are like me, I don't hog the inner shoe when I mow and therefore never use the inner shear plate much. Only when opening a field.

Those are the pivot plates, you'll need to completely disassemble the pivot drive assembly and check the condition of the bearings and pins.

Did you purchase it in that condition?

I've never been able to attach links but on NH site look up NH 451 Mounted Pitmanless Mower
Section 013 - Pivot Drive Assembly shows the parts breakdown.

Good mowers, I've had one for over 30 years, mostly used for timing now, disc mowers do the main hay cutting now.

Thank you for the feedback.
Yes these are a great machine when used properly. I did not use mine correctly. Tried cutting heavy brush. My mistake is leading to a project that I cannot find anything on. Thank you for the lead.
