JD 4020 Start Button

Hey Guys,

New member here. I'm looking forward to picking your brains!

Probably an easy one to start for you experts...

I have a 67 4020D powershift and ordered a new start button (P/N R39554). I received it today but am not familiar with the terminals on this one. Is there another cap/part I should have ordered?

Much Appreciated

How was the original one connected? Harness end should have a plastic end to match that switch...two ends in the harness clip.

Under that switch number it says to also order AR47374 which from what I can see is the rubber cap you already have on yours.
The wire terminals should have plastic housing with notches where it just slips up onto those prongs on the back of the switch. Sometimes 2 separate housings and sometimes both are made into one housing. Not sure what the 4020 normally has on them.

It looks like the guy before me made some mods. There's just a flat terminal coming from the harness that connects to the switch. I'm guessing that start button isn't original... From your and JMS./MN responses it sounds like there should be a connector on the harness similar to the ignition safety switches then if I'm hearing you correctly.

Thanks Tx Jim! My gut and looking at the parts diagram tells me mother deere would love to sell me a new AR47685 harness to get the connector. Nearest dealer is about an hour away so I'll see if I can get my point across the phone.

Thanks everyone

The original part was had two screws to hold the
wires on . The last button I bought had instructions
on how to connect the new style switch

What is your serial number? The switch changed over time. The older version is AR21823.

If #R39554 is, in fact the correct switch for yor tractor, the plastic connector you need (less terminals) is # R77480, only costs about $0.44.

SN is 155299. I believe R39554 is correct from JD's diagrams? Sounds like I need QTY 2 U46662 terminals as well and I should be set. Thanks Bob for the info!
