Florida Jubilee

I recently bought a 1953 ford jubilee and have been slowly restoring it. The rear lift did not work when I bought it. I rebuilt the rear hydraulic lift with new gaskets and a new lift piston. That got the piston to move but I feel like there is not enough pressure to keep the lift up with weight on it. The lift will stay up if I manually move it up but if I put any weight on it, it will go down. I was wondering if there is an issue with the external hydraulic pump on the side of the motor that is keeping the rear lift from maintaining enough pressure to keep the rear lift up. If anyone has any knowledge on why this would happen I would greatly appreciate it.
